Summary

In August 2025 U.S. agencies published 485 recall records that GovInfoNow tracks: 423 from FDA, 24 from CPSC, 36 from NHTSA and 2 from USDA FSIS.

That total is down 21% from July 2025 (615), and down 11% from August 2024 (547).

Food made up the largest share (198, 41%).

Sorting each record by the reason the agency gave, the most common hazards were contamination, sterility or manufacturing (CGMP) (96), labeling, dosing or quality defects (69) and undeclared allergens (60).

Of the 435 recalls our plain-English summaries have rated so far, 58 (13%) were rated “stop using now”.

AVID Medical had the most records (24). FDA files one record per product, so one recall event can account for many of these.

Among vehicles, Ford had the most NHTSA recall campaigns (6).
