Summary

In January 2025 U.S. agencies published 540 recall records that GovInfoNow tracks: 469 from FDA, 25 from CPSC, 39 from NHTSA and 7 from USDA FSIS.

That total is up 3% from December 2024 (525), and up 11% from January 2024 (485).

Medical devices made up the largest share (304, 56%).

Sorting each record by the reason the agency gave, the most common hazards were contamination, sterility or manufacturing (CGMP) (108), labeling, dosing or quality defects (48) and listeria (40).

Of the 502 recalls our plain-English summaries have rated so far, 55 (11%) were rated “stop using now”.

Intuitive Surgical had the most records (39). FDA files one record per product, so one recall event can account for many of these.
