Summary

In May 2025 U.S. agencies published 371 recall records that GovInfoNow tracks: 292 from FDA, 37 from CPSC, 33 from NHTSA and 9 from USDA FSIS.

That total is down 25% from April 2025 (492), and down 35% from May 2024 (575).

Medical devices made up the largest share (155, 42%).

Sorting each record by the reason the agency gave, the most common hazards were contamination, sterility or manufacturing (CGMP) (59), foreign material (metal, plastic, glass) (49) and falls, cuts and other injuries (32).

Of the 336 recalls our plain-English summaries have rated so far, 54 (16%) were rated “stop using now”.

Philips had the most records (35). FDA files one record per product, so one recall event can account for many of these.

Among vehicles, Ford had the most NHTSA recall campaigns (5).
