We purchased this vehicle as a cab and chassis and took it to a professional outfitter to have a service Knapheide box added. The box was equipped with incorporated locks. We had an issue with a check engine light and took the vehicle to the dealership since it was still with in warranty. The dealer scanned the truck and stated that there is a P1400 code showing illegal tuning and would void the warranty. Come to find out this code was due to the outfitter installing the box and flashing the computer for the locks. This should not be an issue that voids a warranty when a professional outfitter installs the box directly from the dealer.

Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2013–2027, owners most often name: engine, power train, service brakes. 47 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
