When I drive the in electric mode, I sometimes get a sudden loss of power and the system falls back to hybrid mode. Normally this is expected transition that is part of a plug in hybrid. Electric to Hybrid to Gas... As a alert driver, I plan for this not passing semi-trucks if I am low on electical until hybrid or hybrid to gas... The Jeep 4xe, seems to swtich AFTER I ask for more power.... this delay and hesitation is dangerous. Once example, with 35% battery, at 30 miles an hour, my neighbor was backing out of her driveway, I needed to swerve and accerate to get out of the way. When I stepped on the accerator (in electric mode)... the system seemed to stop- then the gas engine started,…
I have a failed 68C Federal Recall Safety Remedy Recall. The jeep suffered a catastrophic high-voltage battery and powertrain failure while operating at highway speeds. The vehicle is unsafe to drive, charge, or park near structures due to Fire Risk. In December of 2025 at the Jeep's authorized dealership the battery passed corporate software diagnostics, and Stellantis assured me the vehicle was safe to operate. The recall remedy completely failed. On September 18, 2026 while driving at highway speeds in active traffic, the vehicle suffered a total loss of powertrain power and shut down completely, creating an imminent safety hazard for myself and others. The vehicle has been sitting at the…
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the ABS, BRAKE, and traction control warning lights illuminated, and the cruise control became inoperable. The dealer was contacted and the vehicle diagnosed with ABS failure. The contact was informed that parts were not available for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 97,159.
My Hydraulic power steering pump system has a leak. My 2021 jeep wrangler only has 42,000 miles on it. It has been diagnosed by a jeep mechanic specialist independently. The problem appeared in May 2026. With the Jeep only having very little miles already with a leak from the hydraulic power steering pump system is a major concern.
This vehicle has become unsafe to drive and no longer has the performance that it had when originally purchased since the 68C recall. In electric mode, I experience low power and the acceleration is almost non-existent. This has caused significant safety issues when merging onto highways and maintaining flow of traffic speeds on hills. In electric mode, after about 10-15 mins, it will also abruptly start the engine and spike at 4K RPM (even when the vehicle is not under strain or accelerating), then drop to 1K RPM, then spike back up to 4K RPM, then go back down, then up, over and over, causing concern over engine wear and gas mileage impacts. It will not go back into electric mode when this…
The contact's sister owns a 2024 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at 2 MPH and turning, the vehicle crashed into a light pole and the air bag violently deployed. The contact sustained whiplash, a bruise on the left hand, arm, and head. The air bag struck the contact on the nose. There was smoke from the air bag. The SOS message was displayed, and the Police were alerted. The Police Officer stated that the air bag should not have deployed and was caused by a sensor failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was scheduled for repair.
ABS Module failed rendering my vehicle inoperable. Lost signal to all speed sensors and swaybar. Vehicle is stuck in limp mode. This is my only transportation. Manufacturer should have recalled this years ago, they know itâs a major problem.
Since the completion of the 68c recall, my Jeep has a concerning issue: when driving in âelectricâ mode for about 15-20 minutes, the available power starts to decline. Despite pressing on the accelerator it continues to decline for about 10-15 seconds. Then the screen displays âElectric Mode Temporarily Unavailableâ, the ICE starts and engages (with no warmup) and the Jeep switches to âHybridâ mode. This all happens despite there being a 40%+ charge remaining on the battery and ambient temperature being less than 70 degrees F. I believe the 10-15 seconds of reduced power poses a significant safety risk in a situation such as passing a vehicle or pulling out in traffic.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) is opening a Preliminary Evaluation on 2020 Model Year Jeep Gladiators and Wranglers involving a malfunctioning Instrument Panel Clusters (IPC) resulting in the loss of important vehicle metrics and other status information. ODI has received 89 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging a complete or partial loss of the IPC display while driving.  The subject vehicles' IPC display includes the speedometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature, turn signa
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has identified 68 Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) reports for model years (MY) 2021 through 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles alleging a loss of motive power. Recall 22V-865 was issued by the manufacturer to address an engine shutdown condition in certain MY 2021-2023 Wrangler 4xe vehicles. The complaints noted here contain both post recall remedy failures and failures in vehicles not included within the scope of 22V-865. An analysis comparing complaints
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE21-021 on October 14, 2021, to investigate incidents alleging a stall/loss of motive power as a result of high-pressure fuel pump failures in certain model year (MY) 2019-2020 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 heavy duty trucks equipped with 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engines. During the investigation, ODI sought to determine if the related defect allegation was limited in scope to the recalled population. After review of information request response
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 20
On September 6, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE24024 to investigate allegations of engine compartment fires in model year 2021-2023 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles. Most reports described fires starting on the front passenger side of the engine compartment while the vehicle was turned off, with several originating specifically at the electrohydraulic power steering pump's electrical connector. Following the opening of the investigation, ODI s
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-spe
On September 16, 2019, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) granted Defect Petition DP18-004 and opened Preliminary Evaluation PE19-012 to investigate allegations of deficient frame welds and their potential safety related effects on 2018-2019 Jeep Wranglers. Due to a previous steering related recall that was caused by a misaligned weld on the front track bar (NHTSA Recall No. 18V-675), ODI decided to include reports of steering shimmy or wobble, loose steering, and steering stiction (loss
On July 17, 2019, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE) 19-008 after receiving three Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) reports alleging the driver's side seat belt buckle separated from the seat frame, rendering the seat belt non-functional. The VOQs involved model year (MY) 2015 and 2016 Jeep Wrangler (JK platform) that were configured for right-hand drive (RHD) use. On August 8, 2019, ODI issued an information request (IR) letter to FCA.The scope of t
Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2027, owners most often name: steering, electrical system, engine. 10,480 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
