October 2024 Recall Report
Every U.S. recall record the FDA, CPSC, NHTSA and USDA published in October 2024, counted and sorted: who recalled what, why, and how it compares with earlier months.
Summary
In October 2024 U.S. agencies published 544 recall records that GovInfoNow tracks: 473 from FDA, 19 from CPSC, 48 from NHTSA and 4 from USDA FSIS.
That total is down 18% from September 2024 (663), and up 21% from October 2023 (450).
Medical devices made up the largest share (356, 65%).
Sorting each record by the reason the agency gave, the most common hazards were contamination, sterility or manufacturing (CGMP) (94), labeling, dosing or quality defects (86) and undeclared allergens (52).
Of the 492 recalls our plain-English summaries have rated so far, 32 (6.5%) were rated “stop using now”.
Boston Scientific had the most records (54). FDA files one record per product, so one recall event can account for many of these.
Among vehicles, Ford had the most NHTSA recall campaigns (7).
