What ODI says

HONDA HAS APPARENTLY ISSUED A REPAIR KIT FOR HEADLAMP WIRING FOR THE HONDA ACCORD WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE A SET OF INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW THE WORK IS TO BE COMPLETED.THE PRODUCT NUMBER FOR THIS REPAIR KIT IS 06200-SEO-306 WITH COMPONENT PART NUMBERS 32119-SEO-3050 0060-1 AND 32109-SEO-3050 006002.THE AGENCY HAS RECEIVED EIGHT RECALL RELATED CONSUMER COMPLAINTS RELATED TO HEADLAMP ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IN 1986 AND 1987 ACCORDS.THIS INVESTIGATION WAS OPEN TO DETERMINE THE REASONS WHY HONDA ISSUED THIS REPAIR KIT WITHOUT INCLUDING INSTRUCTIONS.THIS INVESTIGATION WILL ALSO EXAMINE THE FREQUENCY WITH WHICH HONDA HAS ISSUED OTHER REPAIR KITS WITHOUT INCLUSION OF INSTRUCTION.CLOSING NOTE: ALL INFORMATION AVAILABLE FROM THIS INVESTIGATION INDICATES THAT HONDA'S PRACTICE OF ISSUING REPAIR KITS WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS IS REASONABLE SINCE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ARE REPORTEDLY AVAILABLE FROM DEALERS.

What this means for owners

  • An investigation is not a recall. NHTSA has not made a defect finding here, and owners are not asked to do anything yet. If a safety defect is confirmed, the manufacturer recalls the vehicles and the repair is free.
  • Check your vehicle for open recalls with a free VIN recall check.
  • Had this problem? File a complaint with NHTSA. Owner complaints are the evidence ODI uses to open and expand investigations.
