Hello, I currently drive a 2016 Volvo V60 Cross Country which falls under the year of recalled vehicles related to the piston ring issue outlined in the Buchanan, et al. v. Volvo Car USA, LLC, et al., Case No. 2:22-cv-02227. According to the suit Volvo is supposed to replace my oil piston rings if it falls under warranty which is under 100k miles. For Volvo to confirm if my vehicle was impacted they performed an oil consumption test back in March of 2023 in which my vehicle failed meaning the rings still needed to be replaced. Three years later and Volvo Cars Tacoma has still refused to replace the piston rings after multiple follow up attempts. I have also reached out to other Volvo dealer…
Currently on going, second time around with high oil consumption problems. Dealer is saying warranty is holding up repairs, warranty points finger at dealership, and Volvo refuses to address the massive safety problem with oil consumption cars by refusing to fix. I will never buy another Volvo, and strongly recommend anyone considering a Volvo to think about how theyâre treating current customers with the known oil consumption problem (horribly).
The piston rings failed on the 5 cylinder engine. The car is not available for inspection as I got rid of it since it cost 16k to repair. My saftey and many others were put at risk as it would cause the engine to heat up excessively and possibly cause a friction weld of the pistons to the crank. This could imobilize the car during driving and cause a crash. I had the car inspected by a automotive tech and the piston rings were found to be at fault. I also had volvo themselves check snd they came to the same conclusion. They said this was normal on these cars. The warrenty company that I went through said they wouldn't cover piston rings. There was no warning about the piston ring problem oth…

After piston rings were replaced 1 year ago, engine continues to burn too much oil. 4 quarts after 1800 miles.
CONCERN: Volvo carsâ sunroofs are negligently designed, allowing sunroof drain obstructions to flood the vehicleâs internal electronics. This results in catastrophic and simultaneous system failures, including brake loss, airbag failure, and disabled traction controlâposing an extreme and imminent safety risk. SUMMARY OF EVENTS: While driving at speed, I received a âBRAKE FAILURE / PLEASE STOP SAFELYâ warning, followed by âABS / ESCâ and âSRS Airbagâ failure messages. This led to a sudden and dangerous loss of braking power and airbag system failure, forcing me to pull over in an emergency maneuver. Diagnostics confirmed that water leaked into the carâs critical electro…

Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2011–2024, owners most often name: engine, electrical system, lane departure. 26 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
