What Toyota Sequoia owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See Toyota Sequoia safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

Was driving at freeway speed on a straight freeway when suddenly vehicle looses control. Vehicle begins to sharply zig zag across the freeway at freeway speed! Could not control the vehicle at first, zig zagging lasted about 5-6 seconds. Nothing came up on the dashboard. Somehow managed to pull it over, I was so scared. Checked tires to see if anything was wrong. All tires seemed fine and once again reiterating nothing came up on dashboard. We continued on to our destination with caution, slower speed, with hazard lights on because all tires were fine when we checked and nothing came up on the dashboard. 20-30 min later the zig zagging began again but since we were cautious at slow speed we …
We have had 3 interior door handles malfunction within 12,000 miles. This poses a serious risk if the vehicle was in an accident where there was a fire and the interior door handle malfunctioned. Toyota has yet to publish a recall, but it is widely documented online and our dealer service advisor has mentioned this is a serious problem they have seen on other models as well. The three handles have broken on three different occasions: Front driver(2/13/2026), rear driver-side (8/14/2026), and most recently front passenger side (9/13/2026)
At every touch of the brakes, light or hard the breaks are extremely squeaky and ear piercingly loud. Toyota has told us a shim kit is available, however, they have been told they are not allowed to install any kits at this time even though they are available to purchase.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2016 Toyota Sequoia. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 158,343, and at the time of vehicle registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 258,000.
Driver side seat, lower molding breaking. Stress from entering and exiting the vehicle. Know issue from research I've done
Interior door handle broke, driver side. Vehicle is just over a year old with 7K miles. Apparently Toyota has confirmed this is defective part, the item is currently back ordered and I'm at 10 plus days waiting for a replacement. This prevents a safety hazard on exiting the vehicle in an emergency.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Sequoia Hybrid. The contact stated that the key fob failed to unlock and lock the front driverâs side door. Due to the failure, the contact was forced to manually lock the front driverâs side door upon exiting and crawl through the front passengerâs side door to unlock the front driver's side door. The dealer was made aware of the failure, and an appointment was scheduled to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
The roof rail is detaching from front to back due to weak clips or tabs, which can easily break and cause the rails to fall off while driving, posing a safety risk. Toyota attributes this issue to external factors and advises owners to avoid tunnel car washes, as they can also cause the tabs to break, resulting in the roof rails falling off during driving. Additionally, water can now enter the rails and the cabin.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

During the manufacturing process, tires are mounted on the vehicle as matched sets to help reduce conditions such as pulling or drifting. If the wheels are replaced or refinished before vehicle delivery, it is important that the tires remain on the vehicle in the same location and in the same direction of rotation.
A battery in a stored vehicle is subject to conditions that can reduce its performance and service life. These conditions include storage period, temperature, parasitic drain, and battery load. Because of these factors, battery inspection and maintenance are required in order to ensure proper operation and optimal battery life.
Long-term or off-site storage requires special care to maintain vehicle condition. The following guidelines should be performed to minimize vehicle component/part degradation due to extendedvehicle storage conditions. Long-term storage can affect a vehicleâs systems and components. Any problems that are found should be corrected immediately.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation to determine if the failure of airbags to deploy during severe crashes, in certain vehicles, was the result of a safety related defect. During the investigation a complex failure was studied that can result in non-deployment of subject vehicle air bags and other restraint system devices in severe crash events. The subject vehicles may be equipped with an airbag control unit (ACU) for the supplemental restraint system (SRS) Ele

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2026, owners most often name: structure, unknown or other, electrical system. 255 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
