What Scion xD owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See Scion xD safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

I had just traded cars with my daughter so I could babysit my triplet 14 month old grandchildren. I drove my 2014 Scion Xd without any issues for 3 hours (from Bath, Maine to the border of Vermont). I traded cars with my daughter, mother of triplets, and she drove off with her husband to attend a reunion. Approximately 10 minutes after my daughter and her husband left, she called and said the car made a loud pop sound and she had to pull over. Then, a man ran across four lanes of rt 89 to tell her the car was on fire. My husband fielded the call from my daughter who screamed, 'The car is on fire!' - then the call went dead. I had to drive my husband and triplet grandchildren in the direction…

Right rear axel is cracked and broken, wheel is rubbing on inside weel well, car is un driveable until it's fixed and has a very large cost to repair.
Read axle beam broke on the right side. Appears to have rusted through.
There is a repetitive problem with mold and AC leaks with the Scion xD. Iâm having breathing problems and I feel sick. Geico and Toyota have discovered mold in my vehicle. It is actually visible but I have no idea how long there has been a leak or how long I have been breathing in mold. The AC line is under the carpet with no protective barrier which is an ideal environment for mold to grow. When I looked up a way to fix the issue several videos came up with many others who have the same issue which means it is not a maintenance issue it is a defect that has never been recalled. Toyota has serviced my vehicle for years and never brought up this issue. I didnât notice a problem until …

I WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY BEHIND A SLOW TRUCK. WENT TO PASS AND ACCELERATED TO 50 MPH WHEN ENGINE BECAME ABNORMALLY LOUD AND FELT AS THOUGH SOMEONE HAD TAKEN OVER THE CAR AND IT WANTED TO RACE. RPMS WERE MAXED. I FLOORED BRAKES AND GOT VEHICLE TO SLOW TO 40MPH. PULLED BACK INTO MY LANE, BUT COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO GO ANY SLOWER. I FELT AS IF I WAS GOING TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. WITH TWO BIG TRUCKS BEHIND ME, I FEARED CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I PULLED OFF ONTO THE GRAVEL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CONTINUED DRIVING. I COULD NOT STOP SO THREW IT INTO PARK AT 40 MPH. ENGINE MADE A HORRENDOUSLY LOUD NOISE AS IF IT WAS GOING TO BLOW UP. TURNED CAR OFF AND ON. MADE SAME AWFUL NOISE. TURNE…
MY BATTERY WENT DEAD WHILE I WAS AT WORK AS I HAD LEFT THE LIGHTS ON. WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GO HOME, I WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK MY DOORS WITH THE KEY FOB. THERE WAS ONE PLACE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR MANUALLY AND IT WAS THE DRIVER DOOR. I UNLOCKED THAT AND REACHED OVER TO UNLOCK THE PASSENGER DOOR. I REACHED BACK TO UNLOCK THE REAR DOORS FROM THE INSIDE AND WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THERE WAS NO WAY TO OPEN THE REAR DOORS. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN ANYONE IN THE REAR OF THE CAR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT. I FIND THIS A HUGE SCARY SAFETY PROBLEM. WHAT IF I WOULD HAVE HAD CHILDREN IN SAFETY SEATS IN THE VEHICLE. THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2015, owners most often name: air bags, engine, seats. 26 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
