What Ram Promaster owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See Ram Promaster safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

The vehicle systems named most often in Ram Promaster complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The plastic fuel tank failed. It cracked/split open and is actively leaking gasoline. The failure is at or near the filler inlet connection where the filler pipe attaches to the tank. The tank is still installed on the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request at Lakeland Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (or can be made available wherever the vehicle is located). How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Gasoline is leaking from the tank onto the ground. This creates a serious fire and explosion hazard, especially near the exhaust system. The vehicle cannot be safely driven a…
As I was turning into traffic from a stop, the power steering failed to work. I did not have strength to turn the steering wheel and needed someone else to drive it. There were no warnings prior to the failure, but as it failed, several items flashed. I am waiting for more information from the service center/dealer. Although it seemed that the power steering would work intermittently, the service center stated that the rack and pinion were "dead on the bus," which is vernacular that is unfamiliar to me. They have not yet informed me as to how or why the mechanisms failed.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram ProMaster 2500. The contact stated that while attempting to drive, the vehicle unexpectedly shut off three times within 30 minutes. The vehicle was restarted after each failure. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was scheduled for an upcoming diagnostic test. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V799000 (Electrical System); as the possible cause for the failure; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 99,755.
The contact owns a 2022 Ram Promaster 1500. The contact stated that while driving and turning the steering wheel, the steering wheel became stuck in the position turned. After restarting the vehicle, the failure was self-corrected. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving and turning in either direction and while driving forward or while reversing. The failure mileage was 41,000.
Alternator belt issues. Chassis belt broke 2 times . House, under hood generator alternator belt broke one. First time there was no warning. But resulted in lose of power steering and coolant. Cut into the coolant hose. A clean break break, not shredded. Second time on start there no warning until the engine over heated and smoke poured from the engine compartment. Belt was shredded. Third time the second alternator belt broke . I was on the the thruway. I heard a flapping noice. The RV was not steering right. I exited the thruway . The engine started smoking . Drove to a safe place to park. Dash lights were on . Opened hood and the coolant resivore was empty , coolant all over the engine. …
Rear backup camera fails intermittently when shifting into reverse. Failure is a blue screen on the driver display. Seems the same problem is currently under recall for other Ram models.
This vehicle was a rental RV from Roadsurfer in [XXX]. Electronic issues caused a fault in the ABS brake system that eventually damage the front axle assembly, which was replaced during our vacation. The electronic issue was not addressed so the ABS brake problem continued throughout the trip, causing major safety issues as the brakes kept trying to set while driving at highway speeds. After the repair was completed, we went to an auto repair store to see if we could see codes that were being thrown, and there were multiple codes already present for this issue when we rented the RV. We also discovered an airbag sensor signal that had not been addressed. we then went to a dealer for this mode…
My 2021 Ram ProMaster experienced transmission failure and became inoperable. It is subject to Safety Recall 44A/NHTSA 23V-301 involving the 62TE transmission. Before going to Ram, an independent repair facility removed the transmission pan and documented burnt fluid and substantial metallic debris/shavings. The van was then TOWED to an authorized Ram dealer specifically because of the transmission failure and recall. Importantly, the PCM software update had NOT been performed before the failure. Ram performed the update only AFTER the transmission had already failed and metal had been documented. FCA originally identified the software update as an INTERIM repair that did not complete the re…
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 19 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging an intermittent or complete failure of the power steering assist system in certain Model Year (MY) 2022-2023 RAM ProMaster 1500, 2500, and 3500 vehicles. Failure of the power steering assist system can result in increased steering effort required to control the vehicle. An increase in steering effort can potentially lead to a loss of directional control of the vehicle. Several received reports

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2014–2026, owners most often name: electrical system, engine, power train. 801 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
