Safety complaint description In August 2026, I experienced a potentially dangerous incident involving my 2023 Polestar 2 AWD Performance while performing a U-turn. During the maneuver, the vehicle unexpectedly stopped or hesitated and did not move forward when I expected it to, leaving me exposed in the roadway and creating a risk of a collision with approaching traffic. I do not know what caused this behavior. I am concerned that it may involve an unexpected interruption of vehicle propulsion, a driver-assistance system or another electronic or mechanical malfunction. I have not received a diagnosis confirming the cause. I have also experienced other concerning vehicle symptoms, includin…
When getting into the vehicle to drive, there are instances where one is unable to put the vehicle into drive. Center driver screen displays an issue âremove charge cable before startâ and there is no charging cable connected to the vehicle. I have been put in situations in which I have been late to events, deliveries I had to drop off have been late, and I have been stuck/stranded in random places. Not just the grocery store parking lot or even at home, but peoples driveways while performing deliveries. I would imagine other drivers have been in similar situations. Polestar knows this is an issue and I was quoted $900 for a software fix (which could truly not lead to the fix if there ac…
A 2024 Polestar 2 electric vehicle was purchased used from a dealership. At the time of purchase the eCall service light was illuminated. The dealership dismissed the warning light as nothing to be concerned about. The selling dealership had access to a vehicle history report showing a prior accident and performed a pre-delivery inspection before the sale, yet failed to identify or disclose the standing water, exposed wiring, or non-functioning eCall emergency system. After purchase the vehicle was driven for approximately two weeks before being brought to an authorized Polestar service center for diagnosis. During inspection the service center discovered approximately one inch of standing …

Rear driveshaft/axle shafts failing at 39,000 miles on a 2021 Polestar 2. Symptom is a ticking/clicking noise during deceleration at low speed cadenced to wheel speed. Polestar issued Technical Journal TJ 36854.1.0 in March 2024 acknowledging this as a known issue on 2021-2023 model year vehicles with VST Operation Number 46602-2. Despite this being a documented manufacturer defect, Polestar is not covering the repair outside the bumper-to-bumper warranty period. Quoted $2,547 for both rear axle shafts at an authorized service center. This defect affects multiple vehicles across multiple model years and warrants investigation for a formal recall.
Electric vehicle DC charging pins have defective insulator on its tip. The insulator freely rotates, is loose, and one has fallen off or can get stuck in charger handles. The easily detachable insulator, if not present, can cause shorting and arcing of high voltage at the charge port. Polestar has specified the charge port is an important safety related component in communications with them. With the defective charge port DC insulator easily falling off, this could lead to electrocution, fire at charge port due to melting pins from arcing, damage to charging station plugs. The service center the vehicle has been taken to claimed damage was caused by a defective charging handle at charger but…
Leased vehicle 7-25-24. Driverâs rear tire had ongoing slow leak beginning several months after start of lease. We filled with air and reset stored tire pressure. This would last a couple months and same tire would begin to lose some pressure again. Finally at our 20,000 mile scheduled checkup, Polestar service advised to purchase a new tire, which we did, 3/19/26. The car was delivered back to us within a couple of days. On 5/7/26, that same tire completely blew out while driving on the freeway. Was able to exit freeway without an accident, but driving on rim. Towed to Polestar service who diagnosed rim cracked. Both tire and rim completely replaced. Though we paid 5/18/26 (see invoice), …

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2020–2026, owners most often name: back over prevention, electrical system, unknown or other. 593 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
