The vehicle systems named most often in Newmar Mountain Aire complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
The driver's side wiper arm became loose and travelled around the driver's side front corner of the vehicle where it became stuck and motionless. The incident occurred during a rainstorm as I was passing a semi on I-95 going about 60 mph. The driver's vision was dangerously obscured by rain on that side of the windshield as it was not being removed by the stuck wiper blade. Passenger assistance was needed to avoid an accident while getting into a safer position to address the problem. I have read on the IRV2 Newmar Owner's Forum that this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Evidently, the bolts that hold the wider arms in their correct position have a tendency to loosen…
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Tire pressurre monitoring system (TPMS) has not functioned properly since the day the vehicle was delivered. Drive and tag axle tire pressures and temps won't display reliably. The inner tire pressure on the driver's side of the drive axle has never displayed. Other drive and tag axle tire info displays intermittently in no obvious pattern-appears and disappears unpredictably. The TPMS can be inspected. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Operating the vehicle with over or underrinflated tires or tires that are too hot can compromise the tires and cause a blowout an…
My motorhome is currently in a Freighliner shop to replace the 2nd defective DEF head in less than 19,000 miles since New. The defective DEF head causes a derate of power and total shut down and can leave you stranded on the highway or coming down a mountain pass with no power defeating the air compressor therefore no air brakes with a 45 foot, 58,000 GVW vehicle. In my case I was able to get off the highway before total shutdown only because I was aware of the built in shutdown design of the emissions system.
These vehicles, built on a Spartan K3 chassis and powered by a Cummins ISX-12 engine are experiencing very high failure rates in the DEF system control head. When the control head fails, it sends error codes that result in derating engine power dramatically and/or immediate engine shut-down. This creates a very dangerous situation for anyone driving a motorhome that experiences this problem. In extreme cases, it may stop the vehicle in traffic lanes. Spartan Chassis says replacement DEF control heads are in extremely short supply and they will not provide one to a repair facility unless the affected vehicle has experienced a full derating; an initial warning message of a failing control h…
WHILE DRIVING DURING A RAIN STORM, ON I90 IN ILLINOIS, WITH A STRONG CROSS WIND THE DRIVER'S WIPER WAS BLOWN TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND BECAME STUCK LEAVING ME WITH VERY LIMITED VISIBILITY. ONCE THIS HAPPENS THE WIPER ARM MUST BE REPLACED. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES.
I PURCHASED THE UNIT WITH 25,000 MILES. THE DEF SYSTEM FAILED ENROUTE TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM AND FAILED AGAIN AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MILES AFTER REPAIR. THE ENTIRE DEF HEADER WAS REPLACED. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN THE VEHICLE GOES IN TO DERATE. MY MOTORHOME IS 53,000 LBS AND 45'. ADD A TOW VEHICLE AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I WAS HEADING TO LAS VEGAS NV FROM QUARTZITE, AZ WHEN THIS HAPPEND ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY. NO PLACE TO PULL OVER TO EVEN CHECK ANYTHING. THESE DEF SYSTEMS CONTINUE TO BE EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC. THERE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATION IN TO HOW TO KEEP THESE SYSTEMS OPERATING PROPERLY.
THE ON-GUARD SYSTEM WILL ACTIVATE ON GHOSTS AND FREQUENTLY DOES NOT RELEASE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN-MOTION. IT CAN BE ACTIVATED BY GUARD RAILS ALONG HIGHWAY, BRIDGE BUTTRESSES, CONCRETE BARRIERS, VEHICLES THAT ARE PULLED OFF THE ROAD. ONCE ACTIVATED THE SYSTEM MAY KEEP APPLYING THE BRAKES UNTIL YOU HAVE ALMOST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. TWICE WHEN RUNNING ON A INTERSTATE, I HAVE HAD TO PULL OFF ON THE SHOULDER TO AVOID BE REAR ENDED BY A BIG TRUCK, 80,000# TRACTOR TRAILER. IT HAS BEEN TO SERVICE CENTERS MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE ISSUE REMAINS. I ASKED TO HAVE IT UNPLUGGED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE.
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRIGHTNESS CANNOT BE ADJUSTED, CAUSING GLARE WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER IT IS IN-MOTION OR STATIONARY. AS SUCH, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NUMBER 101, "CONTROL AND DISPLAYS." THE ONLY WAY I CAN DRIVE AT NIGHT IS TO COVER THE GLASS DISPLAY SO THAT I DO NOT GET THE GLARE REFLECTING FROM THE SIDE WINDOWS AND WINDSHIELD. WHEN THE GLASS DASH IS COVERED YOU LOSE CRITICAL INFORMATION INCLUDING VEHICLE SPEED. THE GLARE OBSCURES SEEING OUT THE WINDSHIELD, SIDE WINDOWS, OR MIRRORS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE I TOOK DELIVERY AND LIMITS OPERATION TO DAYTIME ONLY.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

The ATC OASIS-GEN1-1A (Newmar # 165355) controller will randomly fail to turn a furnace blower ON or OFF when the ATC HVAC-GEN1-2A1 (Newmar # 00300876-AA) sends a VBUS command.
There is a possible condition where the exterior entrance door handle mechanism can bypass the inside linkage causing a lock-out situation whereby the door cannot be opened from the exterior.
The front upper cap may need to be braced under the windshield.
Winegard has identified an issue with some Travâler Pro products when the auto-stow feature is enabled. In a specific scenario, when the auto-stow feature is active, the firmware may occasionally encounter difficulty in recognizing the stowed position. This bulletin supersedes bulletin (607T) now that Winegard has released the firmware update for a complete resolution.

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2027, owners most often name: engine, forward collision avoidance, unknown or other. 9 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
