What MINI Countryman owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See MINI Countryman safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

The vehicle systems named most often in MINI Countryman complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
The vehicle experienced two separate incidents of severe unintended acceleration and brake failure. Incident 1: The vehicle was parked in regenerative braking mode. It aggressively accelerated forward on its own, and the brakes failed to respond, taking several minutes to stop. Incident 2: While slowing down behind traffic exiting the parking lot, the brakes failed and the vehicle jolted forward, causing a rear-end collision. The Automatic Emergency Braking failed both times. The vehicle was inspected after the first incident at 9,318 miles, but the dealership failed to diagnose the defect and returned the vehicle to me. It is currently under investigation by manufacturer engineers for a sus…
While driving a 2023 MINI Countryman on two separate occasions, the vehicle suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. Pressing the accelerator did not produce the expected power/response, creating a hazardous loss-of-propulsion condition in traffic; the car rolled to a stop each time. I was able to get the vehicle to a safe location, but the incidents could have resulted in a collision. There were *no* warning lights, warning messages, or other clear symptoms before the loss of acceleration. The vehicle had (unbeknownst to me, prior to my ownership) previously experienced an electrical/battery-related event after its parking lights were left on, followed by diagnostic fault codes. The vehicl…
My car is a 2019 Mini Countryman All4 S. It currently has 17,000 miles. I bought it new, and it has only been serviced by the Dealer. On July 20, it was in for an oil change, and they informed me that right engine mount was starting to tear and needed to be replaced. The price quoted was $1,135.83. I have owned many cars with a lot more age and mileage, and have never had to replace an engine mount. They said if I did not replace it, it would eventually damage other parts of the engine. After talking with other Mini owners, I found out it is common for this part to fail much sooner than it should. They all felt it should be recalled, particularly due to the repair cost and short lifespan. I …
On or around 6/20/26, I went to drive my 2014 mini countryman. When I got inside, I quickly realized that there was mold growing throughout the vehicle, on the carpet, and in the trunk. The vehicle started, but I was unable to use the drivers side window. I sent the vehicle in for service and was informed that a massive leak after a storm had clogged the drain tubes to the moon roof allowing water to leak into the driver side floor. The water damaged the electrical box which caused the window to stop worked. I found out later that this electrical component failure can cause several other issues most alarmingly, increased potential for an electrical fire. I have filed a claim with my insuranc…
On May 29, 2026, my 2025 MINI Countryman SE (battery-electric) became completely immobilized when the charging connector locked into the vehicle's charge port and could not be released. With the connector locked in, the vehicle could not be moved, shifted to neutral, or driven. The defect is in the factory charge-port locking mechanism. The connector could not be freed by me, by a MINI master technician working remotely for about 45 minutes, by the tow operator, or by the dealership's own service manager, who tried for over two minutes using both the manual release and the key fob and could not release it (recorded on video). The vehicle had to be towed. Because the wheels were locked, the …
My panoramic sunroof exploded while driving. Sounded like we were shot at. The vehicle is currently at MINI of Des Moines. It can be inspected. USAA is sending an appraiser to the shop to assess damages. This is a known issue. However, after a 7 year federal investigation they were unable to pinpoint an exact reason why this happens and unable to put a recall on this vehicle. The dealership gave me a loaner and told me itâs not covered under warranty but offered to pay my 1k deductible which I gladly accepted. No warnings. Just a spontaneous explosion.
Vehicle exhibits persistent, intermittent failure of Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Phone fails to pair, drops all connection mid-drive (all displays including speed, navigation, etc go dead), and disconnects active calls and navigation prompts during operation. Defect requires repeated manual re-pairing attempts that draw driver attention from the road. The same phone pairs reliably with all other vehicles and devices tested, including a more recent 2025 Countryman dealer loaner and personal home equipment, indicating the defect is in the vehicle's electronic architecture rather than the phone or user settings. Multiple service visits to an authorized MINI dealer have not resolve…
I was driving my 2025 MINI JCW on a partly cloudy day 42degrees Fahrenheit. I was diving between 35 and 40 mph when the sunroof exploded. There weren't other vehicles nearby, and I didnt hear any rock hit, it just exploded.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.
Activation of MINI Personal Assistant is not possible via the Multifunction Steering Wheel (MFL) buttonand/or via the MINI Interaction Unit (MIU). Intelligent voice control via the wake-up word âHey MINIâ is possible.
After programming the vehicle viaISTA/RSU to I-level â¦26-03-5xx, some ofthe interior ambient lighting strips (arrows)may begin to fail sporadically after a deepsleep cycle.
Once the Telematics Module (TCB2) enters sleep mode, a MINI Data Services trigger for Remote Services(remote engine start, lock/unlock/climate conditioning) will not be able to reactivate the TCB2. Due to this issue, Remote Services will not function in the vehicle when parked and locked.
The front interior reading light(s) (arrows) willrandomly turn ON and OFF while driving. The reading lights are normally activated bytouching the small icons (circled).
If MINI Personal Assistant is active in the vehicle, once the customer exits the vehicle and a new key cyclestarts, the MINI Personal Assistant is deactivated and no longer available.
Due to an implementation error in various OBD diagnostics in the vehicle's control units, in very rare cases itmay happen that stored fault memory codes (DTCs) and the MIL (warning light) are not automaticallydeleted even though the underlying malfunction has already been rectified. This does not comply with the statutory OBD specifications.
After a factory reset of the head unit, the navigation voice input cannot be activated or deactivated.
During vehicle start-up the Secure Element (SE) of the BCP may fail causing communication errors. TheCheck Control message âDrive carefully. Driving stabilisation.â will appear. In addition, the fault memoryentries below will be stored within 40 seconds of each other. A Check Control message displays for âTransmission oil service requiredâ (ID 2120). This warning can be triggered: From 60,000 miles (95,000 km) to 78,000 miles (125,000 km) After six years: The time interval of âsix yearsâ starts from the production date of the vehicle, not on the day of the first registration or the completion of the pre-delivery check (PDI). If the vehicle is driven more than approx. 1900 miles (3,000 km) after the first CCM, then a second message will be display for âTransmission fault!â (ID 368).

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2014–2026, owners most often name: electrical system, unknown or other, engine. 106 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
