On XXX at approximately 17,900 miles, a tire on my 2020 Range Rover Velar exploded suddenly while my wife was driving on the highway at approximately 50 mph. The blowout displaced the axle. The vehicle was brought to a stop without a collision, and no injuries occurred. The vehicle was towed to Galpin Jaguar Land Rover in [XXX], where the tire was replaced and the axle and wheels were realigned. The vehicle was purchased as a Land Rover Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in April 2024. A separate complaint (XXX) was filed for a Telematics Control Unit failure on this vehicle in August 2026. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The Telematics Control Unit (TCU) short-circuited internally while the vehicle was parked, draining the battery and leaving the vehicle completely immobilized. It would not start and had to be towed to an authorized Land Rover dealer. The dealer's diagnosis (RO 645537, JLR Technical Assistance case TA 4202195) found the TCU offline, the main battery tested good, and fuse RF20 blown. The replacement fuse also blew. Power and ground checks confirmed the TCU was internally shorted. The TCU (part LR091250) was replaced at a cost of $3,041.24. Before the failure, the infotainment system had persistent navigation and Bluetooth faults. Land Rover issued a software over-the-air update for the prob…
"My 2020 Range Rover Velar (VIN: [XXX], 68,424 miles) has an electronic rotary gear selector showing signs of failure consistent with a widely reported defect in this vehicle line. The shift-by-wire module uses an internal circuit board known for weak solder joints, causing the dial to become stuck and unable to select or exit a gear (fault code P176C-11 in some cases). This is documented across multiple Land Rover/Range Rover models (2013â2023 Range Rover, 2018â2023 Velar, 2017â2023 Discovery). If a vehicle becomes stuck in Drive or Park unexpectedly, it poses a real safety risk, especially since this is a shift-by-wire system with no mechanical backup linkage. No recall currently co…
The contact owns a 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Velar. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, the steering wheel became inoperable. The steering wheel became very stiff and was difficult to turn. The ADAS and power steering warning lights were illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V248000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the f…
This complaint is filed regarding an inoperable vehicle subject to active safety recall NHTSA 26V-248 / JLR Campaign D126. My 2021 Range Rover Velar MHEV experienced a total charging failure and loss of motive power caused by an internal failure of the 48V-to-12V DC-DC converter (boost control microchip defect). A professional diagnostic confirmed the 12V battery is viable, but the DC-DC converter has zero output and is throwing charging communication faults. The vehicle is completely disabled and unsafe to drive. Jaguar Land Rover North America and its authorized dealerships refuse to service, replace the failed component, or ground the vehicle under the recall campaign without requiring …
RECALL REMEDY FAILURE-DEALER DENIED SAFETY REPAIR On 7/31 vehicle would shut off after cranking up. Eventually got a check engine light. I was out of town at the time and it was 630pm. I was able to take vehicle to a Advanced Auto so they could do a quick diagnostic check. Codes P0505--Idle Air Control System DTC Severity 2 of 3 and P0507--Idle Control System RPM Higher than expected also showed. I was able to drive back home but had to immediately give the car gas for the car to stay running. On 8/3 I contacted Land Rover/Jaguar and was told to bring the car in 8/4 for an appointment. By my 8/4 appointment I had already researched what could have been wrong with my vehicle and found that a…
The backup camera on my 2021 Velar has stopped functioning. Service confirmed not a wiring issue and claims it is the NFSM Module not functioning correctly. There are several recalls on the module that include the model and year of my Velar. Although my VIN number is not included in the recall, it is highly suspect that it is a known faulty module for the year and model amongst other models from 2020-2024. It is a safely hazard and one that should not fall under the consumers responsibility. This make, model, year and VIN needs to be added to the recall. Please do the right thing and have it included in the recall. Thank you!

Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-spe

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2017–2026, owners most often name: engine, electrical system, unknown or other. 115 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
