I purchased this 2026 Jayco Precept 34G Class A motorhome new in May 2026. During the first approximately 1,000 miles, it exhibited severe steering/handling instability requiring constant correction at highway speeds. As a first-time Class A owner, I initially thought this might be normal and continued operating it with family aboard. On XXX, a Ford commercial service center inspected the motorhome and documented missing steering-stabilizer hardware, specifically a missing nut, and a bent stabilizer shock. The service center photographed the defects. The stabilizer was later replaced and an alignment performed. The missing hardware and bent stabilizer created a serious potential loss-of-cont…
This concerns the towing hitch on the Jayco precept. While driving the hitch collapsed and the towing arms started to drag on the ground It tore away where the bends are, that form part of the plate that is bolted onto the precept. This could have resulted in destroying our towed vehicle or if the last inch had separated it would have caused the towed vehicle to no longer be attached to our Jayco. It could have caused serious injury to other vehicles on the road. Fortunately we had just stopped at a light and heard the towing equipment scraping on the ground, so we were able to unhook and travel to find a welder to weld it back in place.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-53. The contact stated that the parking brake made a knocking sound when activated. Occasionally, the parking brake locked up, and the vehicle was restarted. The brake pedal overheated, causing a burning brake odor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the brake pedal was adjusted to keep the brake shoe from seizing onto the drum. The brake drum, brake shoes, and hardware were replaced 4 times; however, the failures persisted. The contact learned that the failures had started long before the vehicle was purchased. The manufacturer was informed of the failures, and a case had been opened. The failure mileage was approximately 2,100
The contact owns a 2017 Jayco Precept built on a 2016 Ford Motorhome Chassis. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, there was smoke coming from the rear of the RV. The contact pulled over to the side of the roadway and stopped the RV. The RV was towed to the local repair center, where it was diagnosed and determined that hydraulic fluid had leaked onto the exhaust pipes, causing the smoke. The contact was informed that several support welds had fractured and caused the hydraulic fluid lines to fail and leak hydraulic fluid. Additionally, the mechanic informed the contact that several support welds located at the rear of the RV had sheared off, causing the body of the RV to l…
Wipers not working and no replacement part made anymore. My wiper relay module went bad and the wipers are not working. I contacted Jayco and was told to order a aftermarket harness and modify it. No servicing dealer will do this for me, making the rv a unsafe to drive in rain conditions. This is a big issue that I can't imagine I'm the only one with this issue. They had a recall on later models for a similar issue.
On [XXX], I was driving my 2021 Jayco Motorhome built on the Ford F53 chassis on a trip to Tucson, Arizona. On my way there, just outside of Clovis, NM, I noticed a strange vibration in my front end. When I attempted to slow down to enter Clovis, I heard grinding as I stepped on the brake and had a hard time slowing. We immediately searched for a local Ford Truck repair shop. Finding none anywhere close, we drove to Clovis Big Rig Repair. The repair shop immediately had us pull in. They jacked up the front of the rig and noted that the driverâs side of the rigâs wheel bearing was loose. When they checked the passengerâs side tire, the tire moved back and forth approximately thre…
Windshield wiper system worked intermittently for the last couple of years. Now it the windshield wiper system doesnât work at all.
[XXX] we were camping in Maryland. I attempted to exit the motorhome through the only exit door. When I turned the door handle to open the door the handle fell off. We were not able to exit the motorhome. I called the RV Office and they sent over a maintenance man who had to open the door from the outside. The back end of the handle fell off the handle. The handle is made from aluminum and the end is rolled over there is a snap ring in a groove as cell. The snap ring groove apparently wore out which caused the whole device to fall apart. This could have been a catastrophic event in the case of an emergency. I could not locate a replacement part in the area where we are camping so I decided …

Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2026, owners most often name: visibility/wiper, structure, unknown or other. 45 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
