What Jaguar XJ owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See Jaguar XJ safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

The vehicle systems named most often in Jaguar XJ complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
While driving at 65 mph on the highway, the coolant system failed catastrophically without warning. This sprayed boiling coolant onto the hot engine block, filling the cabin with smoke, blinding visibility, and causing the engine to shut down suddenly in active traffic.
The contact owns a 2016 Jaguar XJ. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, diagnostic trouble code P0119 was retrieved. The contact stated that the vehicle drove unusually rough and shook erratically. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Pep Boys, where the contact was informed that the engine oil level was low. The vehicle was then towed to EZ Foreign Auto Repairs, where it was diagnosed with a failed engine control module and low engine oil. The contact was informed that the engine and the engine control module needed to be replaced; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The con…
Our 2019 Jaguar XJ only has 41000 miles on it but it has a poorly designed cooling system: Hoses for the cooling system travel directly under the super charger assembly and are not designed to stay intac for anywhere near our 100,000 mile Warranty but are NOT covered by warranty. This, I would argue is a definitive safety issue with the fumes that are produced and the leakage from the pink hybrid coolant. Also, the available replacement parts are metal piping as opposed to the inferior plastic installed by the manufacturer, which seems intentional due to the high cost FOR REPLACEMENT born by the consumer. Due to the frequency reported by consumers for this issue this should have been class…
I am reporting a safety defect involving my 2016 Jaguar XJ. The driver-side door cannot be opened from either the inside or the outside. This failure occurred without warning and has made the vehicle unsafe to operate. This issue presents a serious safety risk. If an emergency occurs, such as a crash, fire, or other urgent situation, the driver may be unable to exit the vehicle quickly. Being trapped inside the vehicle due to a non-functioning door creates a dangerous condition and increases the risk of injury. The vehicle has been used under normal conditions, and there were no prior indications that the door latch, lock, or electronic mechanism would fail. A complete loss of access to the …
In 2019, I purchased a Jaguar Land Rover vehicle. Over the past four to five years, the Y-pipe for the coolant system has repeatedly cracked and broken after being replaced by the Jaguar dealership. This is a significant safety concern that leads to coolant leakage, triggering a warning light and causing panic to remove the vehicle from the road to prevent overheating, head gasket failure, or potential fire. The Y-pipe is not available upon request, and I was informed that it is made of plastic. Because it goes from hot to cold, it will always be a recurring problem as long as it is manufactured as a plastic component. Another year passed, and the problem reoccurred. The dealership informed …
The contact owns a 2015 Jaguar XJ. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 MPH, the steering wheel unexpectedly seized with no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that as a result of the failure, the vehicle hydroplaned and collided with a jersey wall. The contact sustained back and neck injuries; however, no medical treatment was received. A police report was filed. The contact also stated that none of the air bag deployed during the incident. The vehicle was not towed, and the contact was able to drive the vehicle home with a police escort. The following day, the contact inspected the vehicle and stated that the left side of the steering was movable, but the ri…
Sudden loss of power steering while driving at 40 to 50 mph followed by engine stalling on highway
The contact owns a 2014 Jaguar XJ. The contact stated while driving approximately 40-55 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist, and then stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2023, owners most often name: engine, electrical system, unknown or other. 64 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
