Systemic defect front passenger seat occupancy sensor failure triggering an illuminated airbag warning light.
In August 2026, while driving, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration and engine power and would only travel at a very slow speed. The check engine light came on. The driver had to safely stop, turn the engine off, and restart it. After restarting, the vehicle temporarily regained acceleration and normal speed. This problem has occurred more than once and creates a serious safety risk in traffic, especially when merging or crossing intersections. An INFINITI dealer inspected the vehicle and advised that the problem may involve the turbocharger system, with repairs estimated at approximately $4,000. INFINITI Consumer Affairs was contacted about the loss of acceleration but declined financial …
I was parked in my garage getting ready to start my car and the glass in my moonroof spontaneously shattered. There was no object that hit it because I was in my garage. It sounded like a gunshot. The glass flew upward and the glass looks like it shattered into a little volcano on the edges.
The contact owns a 2021 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 - 80 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would accelerate but failed to exceed 10 MPH. The accelerator pedal had to be depressed to the floorboard for the vehicle to accelerate; however, the vehicle still failed to exceed 10 MPH. During the failure, the check engine warning light was temporarily illuminated. The contact intended to have the vehicle towed to the dealer, which was called and informed of the issue. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V234000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
I took my car in for a steering problem to the dealer. The car is weaving out of the lane when it hits uneven pavement. They looked at the car and did a wheel alignment. After that I noticed that the car was still weaving on uneven pavement. After some months I took it back to another dealer. They again tried to do an alignment. I told them to look deeper because that didn't fix it last time. After I pushed them to keep looking a senior tech came back and said it was the steering assembly and that he just fixed one like that. My car was just out of warranty but the dealer would not honor it. So I started looking for the part at a cheaper rate then they quoted me and i found one. I …
While operating the vehicle, the transmission suffered an abrupt failure resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0720 (Output Speed Sensor Circuit). Further diagnostic inspection revealed a complete internal failure of the integrated valve body assembly, which houses the Transmission Control Module (TCM), solenoids, and output speed sensors. The failure caused an immediate loss of gear selection, restricting the transmission to 3rd gear ("limp mode"). Attempting to accelerate beyond 3rd gear causes violent vehicle shaking, severe hesitation, and an inability to maintain traffic speeds due to the TCM losing signal input from the speed sensors and solenoid circuits. This total valve body…
The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with air bags failure. The contact was informed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to pass State Inspection due to the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.…
The Steering Assembly is faulty in the vehicle. I purchase this vehicle as a used Certified preowned vehicle from Hart Infinity in Connecticut. I looked at several one year old Infiniti's as I had an accident in my 2019 and it was totaled. As I was looking, I notices that several of the vehicles had curb rash on the front rims as well as the one I purchased. After I bought mine in July 2024 I noticed that on uneven pavement the vehicle would pull left and right an I had to fight the steering wheel to keep the car in my lane. My safety was at risk because if I didn't maintain control I could crash into someone. I did some research on some sites and there was several people talking about…

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2014–2024, owners most often name: steering, electrical system, engine. 512 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
