The timing chain and camshaft broke the car froze while driving 70 mh. No warning. With about 67000 mi on it. Yes it can be inspected. At risk on the freeway going 70 mph. Was able to coast to the right side before engine locked the wheels. Not able to restart. Towed to an independent garage. They gave a diagnostic test and then opened it up to find timing chain broke and caused camshaft as well as other damages. No warning! Taking it to Moses Lake Honda dealership tomorrow for another evaluation and replace the engine if needed. Low mileage and well maintained! Should have never happened.
9/18/26 During driving at city road speeds (25-40 mph) vehicle unexpectedly stalls. Vehicle does restart. Light on dash was illuminated. Code p0685 on OBD reader. Code cleared to attempt to obtain solid evidence of issue. Light again appeared 6 days later when accelerating up hill at 20mph. Taken to dealership where they confirmed same code. Vehicle repaired at dealership on 9/28/26 - Repair required new battery and complete power train control module as well as power train relay fuse to be replaced. Vehicle still has slight hesitation uphill.
I am reporting a potentially serious safety concern involving the front driver's-side window of my 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid. While I was driving on a highway, shortly after leaving a stoplight, the front driver's-side window suddenly shattered. I had just come from a stoplight and was not traveling at high speed. There was no known collision or apparent object striking the window that caused it to break. Honda has already refused to assist me with the repair. I have found several NHTSA owner complaints involving spontaneous shattering or exploding of side/rear window glass on this generation of Honda CR-V, including: ⢠NHTSA complaint 11493390 â 2022 Honda CR-V: the passenger window re…
I brought my car into a dealership on 09/25/26 due to recall (system update), no maintenance light is on nor any alerts--was told to replace front tires and to have 90k maintenance done. After the software update-- 3 days later, my dashboard lights all lighted up (Christmas tree). Brought the car back on 09/30/26 because I figured technician failed to calibrate after updating the system software but then I was told i needed to replace the fuel injection parts. The car handbook says to use regular unleaded gasoline 87 or higher. I've been using 87 gasoline and now i'm told that my fuel injections are failing and need replacement. Cost for parts and labor is almost $3000. The service technici…
The contact owns a 2024 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the carpet was lifting where the floor mat connected to the retention hooks near the driver's side door panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the carpet needed to be replaced; however, the repair was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the carpet was replaced twice; however, the failure recurred with the carpet sliding down from underneath the dashboard, shifting away from the door seal and retention hooks. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure was confirmed, and the carpet was repositioned, but the driver's side seat sliding mechanism became…
I am filing this complaint regarding a dispute with Honda concerning reimbursement for a repair that I believe was related to a Honda safety recall involving my vehicle. I own a 2018 Honda CRV-EXL. My vehicle experienced a problem involving the recalled component. I brought the vehicle to Honda, but the issue was not resolved through Honda, and I ultimately had to have the vehicle repaired at another repair facility. I paid approximately $4,700 out of pocket for the repair. I then contacted Honda and requested reimbursement because I believed the repair was related to the recall. Honda eventually sent me a reimbursement of only $250. I have repeatedly attempted to understand why Honda wo…
I own a 2011 Honda CR-V that previously received the remedy for NHTSA Recall #23V-228 regarding rear frame and trailing arm corrosion. Although the support brace was installed, the vehicleâs structural integrity is actively failing due to ongoing rust. This safety recall affects over 560,000 vehicles, yet many are still bought and sold daily with severe frame rot. I was sold one of these unsafe vehicles, and the trailing arm is now on the verge of breaking away completely. I have contacted American Honda Motor Co., but they have refused to offer further assistance, claiming that performing the initial recall brace satisfies their legal obligation. I can provide pictures when requested.
Unknown. Please read! I believe my vehicle may have a fuel-pump failure. I purchased/financed my 2018 Honda CR-V Touring in April 2026 at approximately 169,000 miles. On July 9, 2026, in Garland, Texas, my vehicle began experiencing serious starting and driving issues. Multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard, and the vehicle had difficulty starting. The engine would crank for an extended period before eventually starting. Once started, the vehicle would not accelerate normally. The accelerator pedal felt unusually resistant, and the vehicle would have difficulty gaining speed. I had to pull over to the side of the road and restart the vehicle multiple times in order to contin…
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 48 Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) reports and some Early Warning Reporting (EWR) field reports alleging intermittent loss of motive power in Model Year (MY) 2020â2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid vehicles.  These incidents are alleged to occur without warning at highway speeds and are accompanied by a flashing check engine light immediately before the loss of motive power occurs. Motive power can be restored by turning the ignition off and back
On February 21, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE22003) to assess reports of inadvertent activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system, in model year 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord vehicles. The reports allege that activation of the AEB system occurs while driving with no apparent obstruction in the vehicle's forward path, resulting in sudden vehicle deceleration. From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 20
On November 29, 2023, the Oï¬ce of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Engineering Analysis (EA23003) to assess allegations of momentary increase in steering eï¬ort in model years (MY) 2022-2023 Honda Civic, 2023MY Honda CR-V, and 2023MY Acura Integra vehicles (subject vehicles). The complaints received by ODI alleged that the subject vehicles experienced a momentary increase in required steering eï¬ort (described as âsticky steeringâ) occurring mostly at highway speeds after driving
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-spe
On November 29, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE 22-011 after reviewing field reports alleging rear differential seizure in 2018-2022MY Honda CR-V and HR-V vehicles equipped with all wheel drive. To date, ODI has not received any consumer complaints. Some of the field reports received alleged the vehicleâs wheels locked up with no warning while the vehicle was in motion. These vehicles were towed to a dealership. Examination of these vehicles showed the driveshaft had

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation to determine if the failure of airbags to deploy during severe crashes, in certain vehicles, was the result of a safety related defect. During the investigation a complex failure was studied that can result in non-deployment of subject vehicle air bags and other restraint system devices in severe crash events. The subject vehicles may be equipped with an airbag control unit (ACU) for the supplemental restraint system (SRS) Ele
Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2027, owners most often name: engine, forward collision avoidance, steering. 11,237 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
