Vehicle Information: 2018 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special Safety Complaint: I am filing this complaint because the excessive engine heat from my 2018 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special has caused repeated burns to my right inner thigh while riding. This is not simply an issue of rider discomfortâit is a safety concern that has resulted in physical injury. During normal riding, particularly in stop-and-go traffic, at traffic lights, or in warm weather, the engine produces an excessive amount of heat that is directed toward my right inner thigh. Despite wearing jeans, I have suffered multiple burns over time. The most recent burn blistered and has now left permanent scarring on my leg.…
The motorcycle powertrain loses power while traveling at speed without warning. The engine lights come on when the power leaves the powertrain, and I have to coast to a safe location. Recently, it happened while on a road trip to Tennessee on the interstate and I had to maneuver through traffic, coasting to get to the shoulder of the road and nearly had an accident due to loss of power. The Bumpus HD dealership technician in Tennessee rode the bike and it lost power while he was riding but he could not determine the cause of the loss of power. As a result of not locating the source of the loss of power, I had to have the bike trailered from Tennessee to Maryland.
Due to a known manufacturing issue the coil pack wiring was faulty on my motorcycle. It happened twice while I was out riding and both times the motorcycle shut down unexpectedly on me. The second time was almost catastrophic but I was able to ride in neutral to a breakdown lane. I bought the bike in July 2025 and the first issue I had was in august 2025. The issue was brought in, resolved and then a few days later the issue happened again and was once again serviced and resolved in accordance with the Harley Davidson service bulletin. The issue again happened in June 2026 and has been fixed by a different dealer. This is an extremely dangerous issue that should be recalled.
Incident Description: On [XXX], I took delivery of a brand-new 2026 Harley-Davidson Road Glide from a certified franchise dealership. Within 15 to 20 minutes of departing the dealership, under normal riding conditions on a well-maintained roadway, the motorcycle suffered a sudden, catastrophic mechanical failure. I observed a large cloud of white smoke trailing heavily from the motorcycle. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder and shut the engine down. Upon inspection, the entire right side of the motorcycle was saturated in motor oil. The oil was actively ejecting from the air cleaner housing and rapidly accumulating on the ground in a large puddle. Safety Hazard & Impact: The volume of…

The 2025 Road Glide throttle is malfunctioning. The bike is 5 days old. The throttle is hyper-sensitive. It also is inconsistent in power even when the throttle is held steady it will surge. The bike will tend to pop forward - lurch ahead at slow speeds, especially when coming to a stop. At times the bike will also not reach idle, it races to 2100 RPM and stays at that level at a complete stop. The bike throttle is not in the drivers control and feels very unsafe.
SADDLE. BAG CAME OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD, BIG SURPRISE FOR ME i just found out i should report this fault as it could cause an accident or get somebody hurt
The Skyline OS on the infotainment system frequently resets and goes entirely black during rides. This is a known software problem that Harley does not seem to be able to fix. It means that in the middle of a ride, you lose your speedometer and donât know how fast you are going. The system takes several minutes to reset.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2026, owners most often name: electrical system, service brakes, engine. 57 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
