The vehicle systems named most often in Harley-Davidson Flhtcutg complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
The failed part is called the HD Tour-Pak, which is mounted above the trunk of the Harley 3 wheeler, known as a TriGlide. Harley Davidson Corp has denied my claim saying it is âCosmeticâ in nature. Dimissing this issue is a severe mischaracterization of a structural failure. The CRACK originates directly at the left forward position from the main hinge and propagates downward, extending underneath the left speaker box assembly, can be seen on supplied photos. This specific area is a critical load-bearing region of the Tour Pack. This trike is equipped with a factory-approved, OEM Harley-Davidson luggage rack mounted to the lid. When the lid is opened, the weight of the lid, the facto…
The contact is filing the complaint on behalf of the owner of a 2020 Harley-Davidson Tri Glide Ultra (FLHTCUTG). The contact stated that from the police report, the vehicle veered to the right at 65 MPH and drove into a shallow drainage ditch and into a culvert. The contact stated that the vehicle had gone airborne. The driver and a passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The police arrived along with emergency services. The passenger and the driver were transported to a shock trauma unit. The contact stated that the driver and passenger had multiple traumatic injuries, and the passenger died two days later in the hospital. The contact reported that the incident occurred during the day a…
One of the bolts holding the floorboard sheared off causing it to collapse. This happened when I placed my weight on the floorboard. If this had occurred when driving at speed (30 to 70 mph) I would have sustained serious injury or resulted in my death. I have researched this and discovered this is a common occurrence as noted on motorcycle forums. This raises the question how many cyclists have lost their lives or been injured when the foot support fails and results in the loss of control of the motorcycle. There was no indication the bolt was going to fail.
Hello I bought a Tri Glide U from Harley Davidson July of 2024. I found out the hard way that if you are in traffic that come to dead stand still and you are in the wrong gear when you go to take off it will kill the motor. Ok now here is the problem with the trike when you pull in the clutch it will not start and the gears on display disappear so now I don't know what gear I'm in. Harley needs to fix this in the programming so now my trike is dead wont start unless I find neutral now the motor is dead I cant shift gears unless I rock the trike back and forth in the middle of [XXX] . I did call Harley customer service they did nothing. I have rode bikes for years I have never encountered…
Traction control warning lights comes on during drive. Shuts down abs braking and cruise control. Has been worked on by Harley Davidson technician multiple times but continues to be a problem.
The contact owns a 2020 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUTG Tri Glide Ultra. The contact stated that while riding approximately 35 MPH and applying the front brake, the brakes felt "spongy" while squeezing the brake lever. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the motorcycle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The motorcycle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUTG Tri-Glide Ultra. The contact stated that the motorcycle had failed to start. The motorcycle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the voltage regulator, the starter, and the battery needed to be replaced. The motorcycle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that while he was about to ride the motorcycle, he noticed that the charging system was lower than normal. The motorcycle was taken to an unknown second dealer, where the voltage regulator was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The motorcycle was taken to a third dealer, Motown Harley-Davidson (14100 Telegraph Rd, Taylor, MI 481…
All #'s/times are approx. At 2:15p, sun to back, and 30-35mph going into a curve, bike went off road. No brake lights, New tire, 406 miles on it, 6.6 miles fr: dealership, 3rd time there for random electrical issues, radio, starting, etc. Less than 1 mile tested in parking lot. Battery replaced. Drove thousands of miles since the 1970s. Trike maintained on schedule by dealer. Searched this on the internet, shocked at all of the similar complaints and deaths by sensors and brakes locking up since 2008 and that Harley-Davidson knew about it and did nothing. Witnesses said there was nothing that would have caused crash; not speeding, nothing ran in front, paved road, brake lights didn't work. A…

Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2025, owners most often name: engine, power train, service brakes. 82 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
