Leaf spring broke in half while traveling down the highway. Completely destroyed left rear tire by locking it up and causing it to drag for 1 mile before I noticed and could stop.
My fifth-wheel trailer is subject to NHTSA Safety Recall 26V-044 involving the axle U-bolts and leaf-spring attachment system. The recall repair was performed by an authorized Grand Design dealer. After the recall-related condition/repair, I discovered a broken bolt in the rear suspension/shackle-hanger area and abnormal/uneven tire wear. I returned the trailer to the authorized dealer because of concern these conditions were related to the recalled suspension system. The dealer inspected the trailer and documented that all six leaf springs are sagging and losing normal curvature, along with wear to related suspension components, bushings and hardware. The dealer also documented premature/un…
Upon returning from a recent trip I discovered that the passenger side rear leaf spring had snapped in to, near the rear leaf spring hanger. The equalizer also had cracked welds because of the incident. Thankfully the front of the leaf spring was still attached. This RV issue may be related to the widely documented frame flex issue. 1) The RV is at home in my storage shed. 2) Our safety and other motorists were put at risks because if the axle would have completely detached from the frame, it could have caused a catastrophic accident. 3) The broken leaf spring has been removed (picture of broken leaf spring, and equalizer attached). I plan to have a certified NRVIA inspector come i…
I have a 2019 Grand Design Momentum 399TH that has frame flex. We have put in a compliant to Grand Design themselves and had them inspect it. It was confirmed to have had frame flex, twice. The first time it was 'fixed" was April of 2024 at Grand Design Service Center. The second time was November 2025 at Happy Days RV Service Center. During the second time of being "fixed" our exterior drivers side wall had cracks in it as well, they are now refusing to fix the wall stating that because of the tow vehicle we have and the pinbox we currently using. These problems started shortly after purchase when the original pinbox was still there and we had a different tow vehicle. Our Momentum can b…
Frame flex frame has unbolted from inside of travel trailer on upper deck bedroom walls falling off
In early 2024 we noticed a binding on the bedroom slide, we took it in for service at Happy Daze in Ripon and the repair shop fixed the slide issue. After our next camping trip a month or so after the repair, we noticed a crack on the outside driver side of the front of the trailer above and below the bedroom slide. We had noticed a gap in the front bedroom cabinets in which we had attributed to normal wear and tear and had reinforced with screws and wood trim previously. In contacting Happy Daze again we brought it in for the new issue and realized that we were experiencing frame flex/failure. Happy Daze connected with Grand Design who sent a team out and did a goodwill repair of the issue,…
I am submitting this complaint regarding a 2022 Grand Design Momentum 381, that is exhibiting numerous symptoms commonly associated with excessive frame flex, structural deformation, and potential frame failure. The symptoms observed include concerns affecting multiple structural systems of the RV, including the front pin box area, walls, slide-outs, floor structure, suspension attachment points, towing stability, and general structural integrity. These symptoms are not isolated cosmetic issues but instead appear to represent a pattern of progressive structural distress. Critical Structural Symptoms Observed Front Structure / Pin Box Area Excessive pin box movement Upper deck movement Fron…
The U bolts on my RV suspension failed which let all the leaf springs fall out. My family was very lucky that no one was injured or killed. Please see the attached photos.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

Grand Design is addressing concerns of excessive frame flex or wall securement in the front upper deck area of a limited number of fifth-wheel units. This condition could potentially occur over time due to a combination of manufacturing variations, an overload condition, or hitch modifications. Wall securement or excessive frame flex does not compromise vehicle safety or structural integrity of the coach as verified by third-party experts. This service campaign covers 2020-2023 Grand Design Solitude and Momentum fifth wheel products that are 18,000lbs GVWR and over.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received twenty-three complaints alleging excessive frame flex on model year 2017-2023 Grand Design fifth wheel recreational trailers, models Momentum and Solitude. Twenty-two of the complaints allege that excessive frame flex resulted in a cargo or entry door opening while in transit, some with objects lost on roadways, while six complaints also state that slideouts extended out partially. ODI has been in contact with both Grand Design and Lippert,

No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
