What GMC Sierra EV owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See GMC Sierra EV safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

Truck has airbag service issues since day 1. Iâve taken to the dealership and they canât find any issues even though the service safety system continues to appear. Ac issues and charging issues as well. Iâve attached documentation.
The HVAC airflow-direction system failed and no longer correctly controls where the air is directed. Even when the windshield defrost setting is not selected, the system continuously sends airflow toward the windshield. This unwanted airflow causes condensation and fogging on the windshield that cannot be turned off or redirected, impairing the driver's visibility and creating a significant safety hazard. The airflow is also defective in the other ventilation zones. Air is not consistently directed to the selected dashboard, floor, or other vents, and the HVAC system does not operate as designed. This results in poor climate control and significant discomfort for the driver and passengers. …
The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra EV. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the front trunk had erroneously opened. During the failure the vehicle would not shift out of the park position and the warning message indicating that the door was unsecured had displayed. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred on multiple occasions and the battery was disconnected to reset the system and correct the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 15,000.
After the latest update from the Dealer, the integrated trailer brake module no longer shows an output of how much power it's applying to the trailer brake system. It just stays blank. I can tell that the brakes actually are being applied, however not having indication of them being applied and how much pressure is applied is concerning.
I was driving and noticed a very strong smell of an electrical fire. The truck popped up a High Voltage Battery warning and several warning lights came on. We stopped, restarted the truck and the lights came on again, the smell returned as soon as we started driving. We drove the truck to Cable Dahmer GMC in Kansas City, MO. Service advisor Kracinda asked us to exit the vehicle as quickly as possible as it needed to be moved away from the building ASAP. It was parked several blocks from the building in a col de sac away from all vehicles. The electrical fire smell was very strong. The manufacturer is now saying that a software update is all that is required.
Vehicle electrical propulsion system became inoperable creating a hazard to occupants in a temperature control required climate Vehicles visual control showing speed and all other information went completely black while vehicle was in motion.
Component/system malfunctioned: Adaptive Cruise Control integrated with Traffic Sign Recognition/Speed Limit Assist (camera-based speed sign detection and automatic speed adjustment). Vehicle available for inspection upon request. While driving ~35 mph in 35 mph zones with Adaptive Cruise Control engaged, the system repeatedly misread speed signs (or GPS data) as much higher (e.g., 75 mph). The vehicle then automatically accelerated aggressively toward the incorrect higher speed without driver accelerator input. Acceleration is sudden and strong due to electric powertrain torque. This problem can be reproduced in multiple locations in low-speed zones. Safety risk: Vehicle sped up dangerously…
Car rolls after parking brake is set. This happens on low hill grade and high hill grade parking location.
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.
Certain vehicles may have an Ownerâs Manual that contains incorrect information regarding the vehicleâs tires. Vehicle owners will be mailed an insert to include in their Ownerâs Manual. For vehicles in dealer inventory, dealers will install the insert.

Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2024–2027, owners most often name: visibility/wiper, electrical system, fuel/propulsion system. 18 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
