Could not turn the ignition key off beyond the Accessory position in order to turn the key completely off to remove the ignition key. The key would stick in the ON oor Accessory position. The problem was in the microswitch button on the console shifter, the front button is pushed in to enable shifting into the PARK position. This is a safety concern due to not being able to turn off the ignition and also to not remove the key from the ignition. The repair was done by the dealer, a control unit in the shifter was replaced to correct the problem. Part cost was $525, labor was $225.73. This is a class problem on Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks. There should be a recall on this problem…
The contact owns a 2021 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes became inoperable and the vehicle shut off. The contact repeatedly pumped the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that there was a large cloud of white smoke and immediately associated the failure with the vacuum pump. The contact over safely, the vehicle was towed. The contact became aware that there was no oil in the engine. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. The manufacturer and the dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,378.
I was driving around a windy road up a canyon with sheer cliffs, and my power steering suddenly went out. It took almost all my strength to steer it clear of me going off the canyon. It has since then gone out intermittently for months now. Iâm waiting for the warranty to approve a replacement. I know this is a common issue with this year vehicle and there was a recall for the previous years version. Seeing how many complaints about this year make and model online for the same issue makes me wonder if a recall should be in place.
The power steering on the truck we purchased for our son for college went out while he driving, I had him take it to a local shop and they said this is a known issue from GM and a safety alert was issue under NHTSA 21V213000/GM Recall N202325410. However, even though GM used the exact same steering rack parts, they excluded 2016 models from the recall and issue TSB #16-NA-065 as an instruction guide for mechanics. The local shop that is doing the work also sited TSB-N202325410-01 issued from GM. I'm now having to pay $3,597 to have the steering rack replaced the truck, which has no other issues, so that it can be driven safely. This is more than a little surprising and has caused us to h…
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was determined that both rear tires needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to a local Goodyear tire for a second opinion, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear carriage bearings were failing. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer, where the shim kit, bearings, spacer, seals, and lubricants were replaced; however, approximately 3 years later, the failure reoccurred. After further investigation, the contact associated the…
Vehicle had brake system failure while driving nearly resulting in two accidents due to an inability to deccelerate. Brake System Failure notification came on screen along with other safety warnings and a check engine light has stayed on since.
I purchased my truck with 5 miles on the speedometer in Anchorage AK 4/7/2024. In May 2024, the engine idled rough and transmission shifted hard, I was told me it was normal, and I would have to wait 2 yrs to make a transmission appointment. In June 2024 approaching a green light, approximately 35 mph, the brakes locked, I had no control over the steering and it left a 5 foot skid mark. I had a painful neck and headaches. The shop said they couldnât make it do it again. In August 2024 approaching a stoplight at 40 mph, the brakes locked, would not release, gas didnât work, I had no control over steering this left 6-7 ft skid mark, The vehicle also had electrical issues the interior das…
While i was driving on the highway at 85 mph the truck went into limp mode causing the truck to slow down at a dangerous distance. My body was forced forward causing me to lose a portion of control and causing other drivers behind me to slam on their breaks. I pulled over and turned it off for a few minutes then resumed my travel. About 30 minutes later it happened again at 80 mph the exact same way. After taking it to the dealership they said it was a faulty solenoid in the valve body.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
On April 11, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE24011 after receiving complaints concerning a loss of brake assist in 2023 MY Cadillac Lyriq vehicles. These complaints allege a hard brake pedal, followed by a “Brake System Failure” message at start up or while driving. GM shared records regarding several internal investigations for loss of brake assist due to alleged spindle fractures in the eBoost system. GM has stated that in the event of a spin
In May 2019 the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Recall Query (RQ19-001) to assess the scope of General Motors (GM) recall 16V-054. These complaints were for vehicles outside the scope of recall 16V-054 yet exhibited the same symptoms.ODI?s review focused on specific build months outside the recall scope that had a high electric power steering failure rate and

No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
