The vehicle systems named most often in Genesis G80 complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
While using the cruise control, the forward vision warning system activates even though it has been turned off. This is not unexpected as the ownerâs manual notes that is the case. What is unexpected is that it is virtually impossible to find a comfortable position of my head and/or the steering wheel in which the warning system does not repeatedly activate. If it activates often and/or long enough, the cruise control turns off. This is so distracting that on an eight hour trip I finally gave up on using the cruise control when it would otherwise be most useful. I wear eyeglasses, which apparently confuses the software. The Genesis representative insists this is a safety feature. In m…
I am reporting a recurring transmission/drivetrain problem that I believe may warrant investigation for a potential safety defect. Beginning in approximately May 2026, my vehicle developed a pronounced hard bump/jerk and shudder during transmission operation. The problem initially occurred primarily in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears and became more noticeable after the vehicle warmed up. The condition was significant enough that I took the vehicle to Genesis of Columbia/Silverâs Hyundai for diagnosis. On June 1, 2026, at approximately 90,223 miles, the dealer documented that they had âverified concernâ and that the âtransmission needs to be replaced due to internal failure.â The transmis…
As I am driving and I make a turn, the wheel actually locks and I cannot steer. It was very frightening. At first I thought it was the lane change device, but I made sure that was off, and it happened twice more. I had the car towed to the Napleton Hyundai dealership in Lake park, FL and they said the entire steering column needs to be replaced. They quoted over $10,000 for the repair. THe car is a 2017 Genesis G80 with 23,000 original miles. THere were no warning lamps or other symptoms.
2026 Genesis G70 2.5T RWD. The navigation system is completely gone. There is absolutely no way to get the maps or even the navigation settings menu up. On every startup, you can see a part of the screen which shows it tries to load navigation, but fails every time. There are a few critical safety issues with this. To start, a main feature of the Adaptive Cruise Control is relying on GPS map data to anticipate sharp bends in the highway. If the navigation system cannot provide this layout data, the adaptive cruise control will not automatically slow down for upcoming curves, forcing the driver to intervene suddenly or risk carrying too much speed into a turn. Missing speed limits: If the…
This vehicle experienced an engine overheating failure while driving, five days after a cooling-system repair (radiator hoses, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs) had been completed at the dealership. The dashboard displayed an explicit "Engine has overheated" warning, and the vehicle could not continue to be driven. The vehicle was returned to the dealership. Per their own written statement, there were "no signs of engine damage related to the overheating concern" at that time. The vehicle's own mileage record shows it did not leave the dealership's lot for nearly a month afterward, despite a written claim that the shop foreman had personally test driven it before release. After that releas…
The contact owns a 2022 Genesis G80. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, three seconds later the vehicle hesitated, and the vehicle lost power. The contact was able to turn off and restart the vehicle, and the vehicle started working as intended. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure only occurred in hot weather. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V282000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall…
My car was diagnosed with burnt wiring causing the Complete front wiring harness needing replaced. The Company Genesis donât want to repair/fix the problem or the Warranty company. The Service Manager Mr. Daryl has said this is a manufacturing defect issue. They have repaired several on this particular vehicle and somebody should cover it. If anything happens to me, I am suing or my Family will. Burnt wiring can cause a fire.
After 2 hours on the road August 1, 2026 (from [XXX] to [XXX]), in 119-degree heat, the AC stopped blowing cold air out of the dash vents. There was cold air coming out of the rear-seat vent. The vehicle became unbearably hot. (Took my wife 2 days to recover from heat exhaustion.) The AC started working properly after the car sat for a few days in [XXX]. The Genesis Escondido service shop has not been able to duplicate the problem. The vehicle is still there at the shop. Genesis Customer Care assigned a case # XXX, but are unwilling to buy the car back, or do anything else except contact Genesis Escondido service dept. Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.
Some GV70 (JK1, JK1A), GV80 (JX1) and G80 (RG3) vehicles may have a hum or whine noise condition from the rear differential at certain speeds. This bulletin describes the procedure to inspect the vehicle for the hum or whine noise and, if necessary, to tighten the rear differential lock nut to specification. If the hum or whine noise remains after tightening the lock nut, then this bulletin provides instructions to replace the rear differential or other driveline components as necessary.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received eight Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) and eight Kia America, Inc. (Kia) Part 573 Recall Reports between 2016 and 2023. The combined 16 safety recalls all involve the antilock braking system (ABS) modules or Hydraulic Electronic Control Units (HECU) manufactured by the equipment supplier Mando. The Part 573 Recall Reports contain varying defect descriptions and differing remedy descriptions for the same or similar equipment supplied by Mando.

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2017–2027, owners most often name: electrical system, unknown or other, engine. 241 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
