What Freightliner Business Class M2 owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See Freightliner Business Class M2 safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

The vehicle systems named most often in Freightliner Business Class M2 complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
The contact owns a 2025 Freightliner M2. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH and driving over a bump, the contactâs leg struck the gear shifter, shifting the gear shifter into neutral. The contact believed that the gear shifter was not in a good location and that the gear shifter was too close to the driver's leg. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 23.
Horn fails to work when the truck is cold. After the steering wheel has been moved during operation, the horn eventually begins to work. I had a vehicle drift into my lane on the highway, and when I went to use the horn, it failed to work. Fortunately, I was able to swerve to avoid the other vehicle hitting the front of my cab. I bought this truck brand new from Freightliner. They state that there is no longer a warranty on the horn, which in my opinion should be viewed as a safety item and should not have failed in less than (3) years and under 16,000 miles.

This is the first of several entries I am making. The DEF headers on 7 of our trucks have had the same failure and if I see more I will report these also. This is an emission system issue. PART NUMBER 04-31354-004 HEADER-SSI,CONC.6BOLY,CMNS
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is only aware of the one subject fuel container rupture incident on the subject vehicles that first prompted this investigation. The subject CNG fuel system and fuel container design, material, manufacture, assembly and performance appear to be consistent with certain other manufacturers of CNG vehicles and related items of motor vehicle equipment, and in accordance with standards in effect at the time of manufacture. Since the subject incident, new and
On April 3, 2014 in Howard, Wisconsin, a model year 2014 Freightliner Business Class M2 truck manufactured by Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DNTA) experienced a catastrophic CNG fuel container burst when it was struck by an unsecured forklift being transported inside the truck's cargo compartment.A contractor working for the National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) Special Crash Investigations (SCI) Program conducted a field examination of the incident vehicle and the incident scene
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received Early Warning Reporting (EWR) data from the manufacturer that indicated some number of subject vehicles may allegedly experience a SmartPlex electronic multiplexing switch hub module failure. This failure may result in inadvertent activation of accessory equipment such as external lighting, outriggers, crane, or power takeoff.By letter dated March 1, 2013, Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) notified ODI that it has initiated a safety recall
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received Early Warning Reporting (EWR) data from the manufacturer that indicated some number of subject vehicles had allegedly experienced a fracture of one or more support brackets resulting in an unsecured air brake reservoir. This could result in a loss of air pressure necessary for proper service brake application and a potential road hazard if the reservoir separates from the vehicle in operation.By letter dated August 15, 2012, Daimler Trucks North
On August 29th 2011 the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened this Preliminary Evaluation (PE11-028) on Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) for output shaft failures located in the forward-rear axle carrier of certain class 8 vehicles equipped with Arvin Meritor RT series output shaft assemblies. At the time of this (PE) opening, ODI was aware of a field campaign and two field reports thought to be related to this alleged safety concern. The DTNA campaign address a risk resulting from an i
This investigation was opened after ODI was contacted by a fleet alleging that in certain situations, such as a light brake peal application during a low speed operation, the brake lamps fail to illuminate on the rear of the bus.ODI confirmed the problem with two fleets. On April 29, 2010, Daimler filed a defect report concerning this issue. The stop lamps may be intermittent during light brake applications. They are still evaluating the remedial program and will furnish this information to ODI wh

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2027, owners most often name: unknown or other, electrical system, power train. 23 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
