ON MAY 15, 2020, I PICKED UP MY 2019 CROSSROADS REDWOOD (3951WB) FROM CATOOSA, OKLAHOMA TO TAKE IT BACK TO ALPINE, TEXAS AFTER IT BEING AT TULSA RV FOR SIX MONTHS FOR SIGNIFICANT WARRANTY REPAIRS. ON THE WAY BACK TO ALPINE, SOMEWHERE ALONG THE ROUTE THE REAR AXLE'S RIGHT-SIDE LEAF SPRING SHEARED IN HALF. DUE TO WEIGHT OF THE RV AND THE SIZE OF MY TRUCK, I DID NOT FEEL THE LEAF SPRING SHEAR IN HALF. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE CAMPGROUND IN ALPINE, I NOTICED THE RV WAS LEANING ABOUT THREE INCHES LOWER ON MY TRUCK ON THE RIGHT SIDE. I HAD TO LEVEL THE RV WITH A RAMP ON A LEVEL SITE. THE BROKEN LEAF SPRING WAS HIDDEN BY THE TIRE. I LOOKED UNDER THE RV AND THEN SAW THE DAMAGE TO THE LEAF SPRING,…

THE LEAF SPRINGS ON MY UNIT WERE BENDING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. A FRIEND FOLLOWING ME ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY TOLD ME MY TRAILER WAS LEANING TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING. I CRAWLED UNDERNEATH THE UNIT AND FOUND THE SPRINGS ON THE LEFT SIDE BENT. I THOUGHT MAYBE I HAD OVERLOADED THE TRAILER SO I WENT TO THE CAT CERTIFIED SCALES AND FOUND I WAS UNDER THE FACTORY SPECS BY AT LEAST 300 OR MORE LBS. I TALKING WITH FELLOW REDWOOD OWNERS I DISCOVERED THEY HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE AND EVEN SOME THAT HAD BROKEN THAT SPRING WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT EITHER IN THE WEIGHT CAPACITY OF THE SPRINGS OR QUALITY OF THE CHINA MADE SPRINGS ON THESE UNITS. IF THESE BREAK OFF IT COULD BE A CATASTR…

I HAVE A 2014 REDWOOD GK38 THIS 5TH WHEEL RV WAS BUILT WITH 7000 POUND AXLES. LAST DECEMBER IN THE MOBILE, AL AREA WITHIN 40 MILES OF EACH OTHER I HAD 2 LEAF SPRINGS BREAK ON THE REAR AXLE. ONE ON THE WAY DOWN TO PORT CHARLOTTE FL AND ONE RETURNING HOME TO TEXAS. MY CONCERN IS THIS ISSUE IS NOT ISOLATED TO JUST MY REDWOOD THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE THESE 5TH WHEELS ARE ADVERTISED AND FULL TIME LIVING UNITS AND HAVE VERY HEAVY UPGRADES TO THE INTERIOR TO WITHSTAND FULL-TIME LIVING IN THEM. I AM A MEMBER OF THE REDWOOD OWNERS GROUP AND THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THESE SPRINGS BREAKING FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. WHEN THE 2016 MODEL YEAR CAME THE MANUFACTURER CAME OUT WI…

WHILE DRIVING ON US 89 IN CALIFORNIA, MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TRAILER TIRE EXPLODED. HWY 89 SECTION HAD NO TURNOUTS OR SHOULDERS FOR ME TO STOP. THE TIRE IS A MARATHON ST235/80R16 LOAD RANGE E WITH APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES ON IT. I AM FANATIC ABOUT VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND TIRE SAFETY AND THE TIRES HAD THE RECOMMENDED AIR PRESSURE. I CONTACTED CROSSROADS AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I SPENT $102,888.00 ON THIS FIFTH WHEEL AND I HOPE THAT I CAN AT LEAST GET A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. CROSSROADS KNEW OF THIS TIRE PROBLEM BECAUSE IN 2015, THEY CHANGED THE TIRES FOR ALL THE NEW MODELS TO LOAD RANGE G OR AN OPTIONAL LOAD RANGE H. MY TRAILER IS A 36RL AND IT HA…

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 CROSSROADS REDWOOD CAMPER. WHILE BEING TOWED BY A 2008 FORD F-250 AT 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO REMAIN IN POSITION AND TILTED TO THE RIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT FAILED TO FULLY FUNCTION AND WOULD ONLY COOL THE VEHICLE BETWEEN 6 TO 8 DEGREES LOWER THAN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. THE CONTACT ALSO DISCOVERED THAT WATER WAS LEAKING FROM THE REAR END CAP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT BOTH AXLES AND THE REAR AIR CONDITIONER WERE IMPROPERLY MOUNTED, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.

Technical service bulletins (TSBs)

Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

Questions

What are the most common Crossroads Redwood problems?

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2012–2022, owners most often name: suspension, electrical system, tires. 12 complaints are on record.

Is a complaint or a TSB the same as a recall?

No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.

How do I report a problem with my Crossroads Redwood?

File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
