In May 2025, I took my truck to the dealership due to a severe whining noise from the rear. They said the rear differential had failed and needed a full replacement, costing me $1,800 since the warranty didnât cover the entire amount. By late September 2026, while driving on the highway, the whining returnedâthis time with vibrations under my feet whenever I accelerated. Back at the dealership, I was told the rear differential had failed again. From July 2025 to July 2026, my truck was equipped with a Snapshot device from my insurance, both before and after the first repair, so I canât understand why the differential failed twice in just a year and a half. The dealership mentioned that…
The vehicle developed a rapid and moderate shudder followed by "Check Engine", "Service Traction Control", "Service ESC" messages and associated icons on the driver display. The shudder happened a second time within approximately 30 seconds and the engine lost power followed by "Reduced Power Warning" message. I engaged the emergency flashers and limped to the nearest side road. I had to stop on the road because of no shoulder. I waited there while assessing the situation and eventually was able to drive the short distance home. I disconnected the battery to reset the PCM. This action temporarily cleared the fault code and check engine light. The first dealer said it couldn't do anyth…
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a body shop, where it was discovered that the vehicle had misaligned body panels and a frame that was improperly manufactured. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was contacted by phone and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,798.
While driving on approximately September 24, 2026, the instrument cluster and infotainment screens went completely black â total loss of speedometer, gauges, warning indicators, and all readouts. The screens restarted on their own after a few minutes. Since then, on startup the screens remain completely black until the 12V battery is disconnected and reconnected, which temporarily restores them before the blackout recurs. This has happened 4 times total at approximately 50,000 miles. No crash or injury occurred. This is a safety concern because the driver loses the speedometer and all warning indicators while driving. The vehicle is currently at the dealership for diagnosis of this issue (…
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard and the engine seized. The contact stood on the brake pedal. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a fractured camshaft. The contact was informed that the brake vacuum pump fractured the camshaft, and the camshaft was fractured in half. The contact was informed that the camshaft needed to be replaced. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,500.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact pulled over to the right side of the road, turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as intended. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
During a three point turn, the power turned off the car completely for a brief few seconds on the screens and the steering wheel locked. Was able to straighten it and all power was back on immediately. Stabilitrak warning has come out on the dash a few times. There seems to be a sudden power loss till the wheel is straightened. Luckily no one was behind, but this has happened a few times when turning.
THE FRAME HAS FAILED. THE REAR FRAME AREA HAS ROTTED BEHOND REPAIR. i ONLY FOUND OUT WHEN THE TRUCK WAS IN FOR INSPECTION. I HAD A REPAIR STATION LOOK AT THE RUSTED OUT SPOTS. THEY CAME BACK WITH PICTURES AND THE THEY SAY THE COST TO REPAIR IS WELL ABOVE THE VALUE OF THE TRUCK.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
On April 11, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE24011 after receiving complaints concerning a loss of brake assist in 2023 MY Cadillac Lyriq vehicles. No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
