What BMW XM owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See BMW XM safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

On June 8, 2026, I parked my 2023 BMW XM on my residential driveway, exited the vehicle, and walked toward my residence. My Ring security camera captured the incident. The video shows: I exited the BMW and walked approximately 12 seconds to my front door. I entered my residence. Approximately three seconds laterâroughly 15 seconds after I exitedâthe BMW began rolling. The headlights illuminated as the vehicle began moving. I was already inside my residence and had no physical contact with the vehicle when it began moving. The vehicle subsequently crossed the street, traveled through a bush, and sustained damage. I opened a case with BMW of North America following the incident. BMW condu…
On November 26, 2025, my 2025 BMW XM experienced complete drivetrain failure while my wife and two children were in a Kansas City parking lot. The vehicle displayed "drivetrain malfunction," would not engage any gear, and was completely inoperable. They were stranded in an unsafe area for 40 minutes awaiting a flatbed tow truckâthe only option for this 6,100 lb hybrid. At Baron BMW (Invoice #696591), diagnostics found fault codes 032B51, BA092C, BA09B8, BA0A45, BA0023âall related to the Electric Motor Electronics (EME) module. BMW's test plans indicated EME replacement was needed. However, BMW engineering (TSARA Case #4548336) instructed the dealer to simply CLEAR THE CODES and release t…
Purchased 2024 XM in July 2024. Since then all 4 rims have cracked. Quote by BMW to replace $2500. If replaced I would have paid 10k in a year to replace wheels plus the 3k spent in May and June 2025 for a set of new tires. This week my PSI was zero. I could hear the air coming out. Took XM to a tire shop to find out nothing was wrong. The tire was fine and the previously repaired crack was fine. The shop added air and it held. Then the next day, I could hear air seeping from another tire. My husband drove it around the subdivision and came back home to add air. The seeping had stopped. Thereâs not a week that Iâm not adding air to the tires. I keep a compressor in my XM, whereas last…
The contact owns a 2024 BMW XM. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the low tire pressure warning light illuminated. Roadside Assistance towed the vehicle to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the front driverâs and passengerâs rims were cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but four months later, the rear passengerâs and driverâs rims cracked. The vehicle was towed back to the same dealer, where it was determined that the rims were cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000.
Vehicle: 2025 BMW XM Red Label Mileage: Approx. 2,000 miles VIN: [XXX] Dealer: Fields BMW of Winter Park (Winter Park, FL) I am filing a formal complaint regarding what I believe to be a critical design flaw and safety issue in my 2025 BMW XM, The vehicle was purchased brand new and has been driven minimally (approx. 2,000 miles), and never involved in any collisions or damage. I recently brought the vehicle in to the dealership for a hybrid battery charging issue, and was shocked to be told that the front collision sensor and its mounting bracket were broken due to an âimpact.â These components are located in front of the car in the Very bottom of the Grill, Despite the claim of impac…
I applied normal pressure to my brakes to slowly come to a stop and my brakes locked up and started jerking the car. I was told in October of 2023 by the dealership I purchased the car from that there was a recall and no fix. I just checked with them again today and there is still no fix. I am having problems with the braking system and can not get the car fixed.

Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.
Due to unfavorable software, the Storage Management Electronics (SME) will not show fault codes that trigger the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) when performing ISTA Service Function "Display Permanent SAE Fault Codes." As a result, workshops will have to identify SME-specific permanent SAE (emission related) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the vehicle during diagnosis or when preparing a vehicle for a State Emission Inspection and Maintenance through a workaround procedure.
Moisture, condensation, and/or fogging are visible in one or both Daytime Running Lights (DRL) upper headlight assemblies.

Due to an implementation error in various OBD diagnostics in the vehicle's control units, in very rare cases itmay happen that stored fault memory codes (DTCs) and the MIL (warning light) are not automaticallydeleted even though the underlying malfunction has already been rectified. This does not comply with the statutory OBD specifications.
The torsion spring may break at the point where it is connected to the active front stabilizer (anti-roll bar)links. A broken active stabilizer (anti-roll bar) will cause noise as you continue driving.
Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2023–2026, owners most often name: service brakes, electrical system, steering. 11 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
