The contact owns a 2021 BMW X7. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the front of the vehicle. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Airbag/SRS malfunction warning illuminated. Dealer found liquid and condensation on the airbag control module. Diagnostic codes show short-circuits in the left and right head airbag circuits plus an internal fault in the control module. BMW denied warranty coverage as 'outside influence' without providing technical evidence. Concern: airbags may not deploy in a crash.
As I was driving down the highway, there was a loud explosion â took me a moment to realize what had happened. My sunroof had exploded! The interior cover was in place so no glass fell inside. It was 68* out, there were no other cars around within a half mile, so I donât know why that happened, but I heard itâs been happening this year. Add me to the list.
2020 bmw x7 with 34k miles 1 driver, front suspension control arm leaking causing clunk and un even steering / braking feel due to premature leaking of the hydraulic fluid do to a design flaw. As a 40 Honda master tech and 30yr dealer principal I cant believe bmw will not warranty this defect or up grade the part as it seems its still used today and thousands have complained about the issue not even to mention the car is 95k new totally unexceptable. Approximately 67,000 miles, my 2020 BMW X7 XDrive 40i began falsely indicating that the driver's door was open even though the door was securely closed. While the vehicle was in drive and moving, the false door open signal caused the vehicle to automatically shift into park and abruptly react. This caused a serious risk of an unexpected stop and loss of vehicle control. BMW Fairfax inspected the vehicle and verified that it indicated the driver's door was open and shifted or attempted to shift into park while driving and moving. BMW found fault code 804168 relating to the driver door contact circuit and reported that the fault had occurred more than 53 times. BMW also found multiple invalid…
Both factory key fobs simultaneously ceased being recognized for vehicle starting. The vehicle instructed me to hold the key against the emergency key-recognition point on the steering column, but that backup procedure also failed and the vehicle could not be started. A BMW Digital Key Card, which is not something drivers are expected to carry with them at all times and was kept in a drawer at my home, happened to start the vehicle. The BMW dealer subsequently diagnosed/repaired the condition under SIB 61 07 22 and Defect Code 6138270200, which BMW defines as a Body Domain Controller software error/internal equipment fault. BMW also has SIB 66 24 19 for the G07 X7 specifically describing a…
The contact owns a 2026 BMX X7. The contact stated the charging tray for the phone was overheating. While driving approximately 70-80 MPH and charging the phone, the phone became extremely hot, and the contact threw the phone, striking the passenger on the head. The driver sustained injuries to the fingertips. The failure occurred while driving at various speeds with various external temperatures. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to assist. The dealer informed the contact that newer vehicles had a fan installed to mitigate the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
I am requesting that BMW North America open a formal Customer Relations case regarding a front differential failure on my 2023 BMW X7 M60i. At approximately 60,000 miles, I began experiencing a whining/howling noise that increased with vehicle speed, along with a metallic grinding noise from the front drivetrain area. The vehicle was subsequently diagnosed, and during the diagnostic process the front differential fluid was drained and inspected. A significant amount of metal shavings and metallic debris was found in the differential oil, indicating internal component wear. I have photographs documenting the contaminated fluid and metal particles. As an initial attempt to address the issue, t…
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.
A small number of vehicles were produced without the evaporator condensate drain hose being installed. This is not immediately apparent to the customer. However, condensation water that has drained into thefront footwell can cause subsequent damage.
Moisture, condensation, and/or fogging are visible in one or both Daytime Running Lights (DRL) upper headlight assemblies.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-spe

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2019–2026, owners most often name: electrical system, service brakes, engine. 310 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
