The contact owns a 2022 BMW X6. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH on the highway, the vehicle lost power, and the contact was unable to maneuver the vehicle or accelerate as needed. The heat management module warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and caused the vehicle to lose motive power. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure was confirmed by the dealer. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle under reduced power. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle returned to normal operation; however, the failure recurred.

My car was running normal and suddenly red warning lights came on and it said âengine overheated, pull over and turn off car immediately.â I did pull over but I was inside an interstate tunnel. I tried to give it a bit of gas to get out of the tunnel but the car would not power with pedal pressure at all. I had to get towed. After a diagnostic at BMW of Honolulu, the electric water pump had failed. No warning, no previous indications something was wrong.

After delivery, the vehicle continued experiencing intermittent failures involving adaptive cruise control, lane assist, cameras, and related driver assistance systems. Warning messages remained active and the vehicle was repeatedly returned for repair. Multiple repair attempts were performed over a period exceeding 30 days, including windshield replacement, calibration attempts, and outside vendor involvement. The dealership later advised that an improper winds…
On December 27, 2025, while using the vehicleâs Automated Park Assistant feature to reverse into my assigned parking space in my enclosed residential garage, my 2025 BMW X6 failed to detect a fixed concrete structural column directly in its path. Rather than braking or alerting me (the driver) to the obstacle, the vehicle accelerated into the column, causing rear bumper damage. No warning was issued by the parking collision system prior to or during impact. My car was subsequently inspected at an authorized BMW dealership (Braman BMW, Miami). The dealership pulled backend diagnostic data and forwarded it to BMW North America Engineering for review. BMW Engineering confirmed that a sensor …

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 20
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2027, owners most often name: engine, power train, air bags. 188 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
