Just over a year of ownership and the headlights are fogging over with condensation on the inside of the headlight housing. Googling this problem produces hundreds of thousands of results, including forum posts and facebook/instagram reels showcasing this issue across the BMW G42 platform. Apparently, typical driving causing the back-bottom side of the headlight housing to form micro-cracks large enough to allow moisture in. This moisture appears to haze up or fog up the headlights with condensation on the front of the lenses, obstructing light output and potentially ruining the headlights in the long-term. This design flaw is a cause for safety concerns should the headlight be completely ob…
The daytime running lights (DRL) LED module overheated due to poor thermal design burning the connection point and turning the"angel eyes" amber, yellow. When the LED module overheats, it chars and browns the leading edge of the internal fiber optic light tube which permanently alters the refracted light color from crisp white to amber/brown.BMW has released a Technical Service Bulletin acknowledging this dimming/discolorization "flaw". BMW reuses to cover this out of warranty because they claim a Technical Service Bulletin is not a recall ergo a safety issue.BMW claims this is a cosmetic or minor component failure, not a safety issue. This LED module eventually burns out completely and the D…

The contact owns a 2025 BMW M240i. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and unattended in an underground garage and covered for an unknown reason. Upon returning to the vehicle the following day and attempting to open the doors with the key Fob, the doors failed to open, requiring the contact's husband to use the BMW mobile app to open the doors. Upon entering the vehicle, it was discovered that the interior of the vehicle was burnt. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer referred the contact to the insurance company. The manufacturer was contacted and had sent engineers who inspected the vehicle and determined that a BIC lighter fou…
To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate and expand Recall 23V-770 concerning defective steering gear assemblies to include 2022 BMW G42 vehicles. I currently own a 2022 BMW G42 with approximately 20,000 miles that is experiencing the same steering gear failure described in Recall 23V-770. My vehicle is now just outside of BMWâs factory warranty period, and I have been informed that the repair costs are estimated to be nearly $10,000. Due to the severity of the steering issue, I do not believe this vehicle is safe to operate. After researching the recall and repair information, I discovered that the 2022…
Subject: Request for Re-Evaluation and Expansion of Recall 23V-770 â Steering Gear Failure I am submitting this letter to formally request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) re-evaluate Recall 23V-770 concerning defective steering gear assemblies and investigate additional affected vehicles from the 2022 model year. Vehicles sold during the 2022 production year appear to experience the same steering gear defect identified in Recall 23V-770. The steering gear assemblies installed in these vehicles use the exact same part numbers as the components already covered under the existing recall. Due to COVID-era production and supply limitations, relatively few of th…
I have owned a 2022 BMW M240i for a few years now, and as it ages out of warranty, I have replaced both headlights a total of 4 times. I fear additional pairs will be required as unfortunately these headlights tend to crack from regular driving. I have spent a few hours on a couple different M240i user generated resources, and there are several reports of this model's headlights cracking either due to improper housings from factory, or being overly tightened. The end result is the same, however, a complete or mostly complete fogging of the headlight reducing illumination of the light(s) to almost nil. I have spoken to several BMW reps and they tell me there is no fix for this issue and that …

Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

Due to a manufacturing defect, there might be an internal leakage of the brake fluid expansion tank. In therare case that there is a leakage, the filling level sensor might malfunction over a relatively long period oftime .
The electrical system of BMW vehicles has been subject to an ongoing development process over the last few years. This has led to increased demands being placed on the battery. This document covers important information for the dealer on how to handle âÃÂÃÂdischarged batteryâÃÂàcomplaints.
At low outside temperatures (below 40 degrees F) and slow driving speeds (i.e. when parking, maneuvering)with a large steering angle, the front end can be slightly axially misaligned. This can be felt (jerking)/ heard via an acoustic acknowledgement (clunk) as seen at the 11 second mark of the video. See attached video V36 01 21.

Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation public data (complaints, manufacturer communications, investigations), model years 2010 and later. Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA.
In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2017–2025, owners most often name: exterior lighting, electrical system, steering. 13 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
