What BMW M2 owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See BMW M2 safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

My 2023 BMW M2 6-speed manual suffered a catastrophic clutch/transmission/drivetrain failure at approximately 16,000 miles. The vehicle is stock and was still under BMW warranty/CPO coverage. I purchased the vehicle at approximately 6,000 miles and I am the third owner. The incident occurred in [XXX] on [XXX], on the [XXX] side/westbound area. While driving, the clutch/pressure plate assembly failed and caused major damage to the surrounding drivetrain components, including the transmission/bellhousing area, clutch/flywheel components, wiring/starter area, and related hardware. The vehicle became inoperable and could have created a serious safety risk if it happened in traffic or at highway…
The contact owns a 2018 BMW M2. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for a routine leak of the differential seal. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the left wheel bearing had failed. The dealer sent a video that included a sound coming from the passengerâs side wheel bearing. The vehicle was not repaired. There was a loud sound coming from the wheel bearings. The contact was concerned about driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 76,547.
PCV fails prematurely, the car makes a high pitch noise and check engine light comes on. Car stalls making it dangerous to drive since it's not responsive as originally designed.
The electronic parking brake of my vehicle with a manual transmission released automatically simply because the clutch pedal was depressed and released. I did not select a gear, press the brake pedal, or press the accelerator pedal. The parking brake should not be releasing simply by actuating the clutch. There is nothing to stop the vehicle from rolling. This behavior is repeatable and has happened in more than one place.
I was driving on a highway accelerating to merge to left lane when suddenly my charge pipe exploded and my vehicle lost almost all power. The sudden power loss put me in extreme danger as I tried to pull back over to the nearest exit with traffic zooming past me. After doing some research it became apparent that this is a long known issue. In fact bmw has redesigned the charge pipe with a new, more robust version but no recall has been issued to date and I'm stuck with over a thousand dollars of repairs as the pipe did additional damage to adjacent components. The BMW dealer is more than happy to write me up large repair bills and when I asked them why my car with 17.3K miles is experiencing…
Stock OEM right rear spring on 2021 BMW M2 Competition F87 had snapped in two back in August 2023. Vehicle only has about $10,000 miles. Online forums also had online users with the same problem where OEM rear springs snapping on either side. Users also stated that vehicles were parked and springs suddenly snapped. The OEM coil springs should be looked into as this poses danger and safety for the driver especially if these incidents occurred on highway speeds.
I was driving down the highway, doing the speed limit, when my moonroof suddenly exploded. Luckily, the shade was drawn. But, if it had been open, I could have been seriously injured. There was no projectile, nothing fell and hit the window. On inspection of the roof after I safely made it home, the glass was bowing upward. Prior to the incident, the appearance of the glass was completely normal - ie. no scratches, dings, cracks. There was no indication that something might be wrong with the glass.
The charge pipe, connecting the cold side of the intercooler to the throttle body failed without warning. The failure point was the clamping point to secure the pipe to the throttle body. This vehicle has no powertrain modifications. The failure happened all of a sudden and as a result, my vehicle lost all power. Luckily, there wasn't anyone behind my car when this happened, but this could have easily been a big safety issue had I been merging onto a freeway/taking a left turn. I have not gotten the issue inspected by the dealer. The failure was easily visible. Parts of the charge pipe and broken off and fallen on the undertray. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone apart from my…

There may be an internal leakage in the brake fluid expansion tank (aka brake fluid reservoir). In the rare case of a leak, the filling level sensor might malfunction over a relatively long period of time.
Please have the control unit (DME) programmed in the vehicles concerned (according to the vehicle identification number selection), if possible, before vehicle delivery.

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2016–2026, owners most often name: exterior lighting, engine, parking brake. 30 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
