The Parking Assistant malfunctioned. When Parking Assistant took over the vehicle, it reversed too quickly and slammed into an EV charger, causing damage to the rear of my vehicle and the EV charger. The rear cameras did not detect the fixed EV charger.
The contact owns a 2025 BMW IX. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle independently accelerated without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The contact depressed the brake pedal to avoid a crash and the vehicle eventually returned to normal operation. The failure had occurred on several occasions. A dealer was contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

Using the recorded path feature to back into my garage as I have done many times before. I was alert, attentive and ready to act if needed. All started out ok and then the car automatically accelerated aggressively and I hit the brakes but too late as car backed into my garage HVAC unit. On a related note about 8 months ago my wife was driving my 2024 ix50 and pulled into our drive way. She advised that she did not know what happened but the car accelerated bashed into my other car parked in the the driveway and caused serious damage to the car she hit, state farm declared the 2024 iX50 totaled and I also had a decent amount of home damage. We both just assumed it was something she did but n…
THIS VEHICLE HAD A BRIEF WARNING TO STOP DRIVING AND QUICKLY LOST ANY POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. THERE WERE DEFINITE SAFTEY CONCERNS TO MYSELF AND OTHERS REGARDING COLLISION POTENTIAL. THE PROBLEM IS CONFIRMED IN MULTIPLE ELECTRIC BMW IX MODELS BY DEALERS AND OTHER OWNERS. BMW HAS CONFIRMED DRIVE CHAIN FAILURE RELATED TO MANUFACTURING DUST IN THE MOTOR OR COOLING PUMP FAILURE. THIS SAFETY PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PRESENT IN IX VEHICLES.
My BMW's Head-Up Display (HUD) and Speed Limit Information system displays incorrect speed limits that do not match posted roadway signs. The HUD frequently shows "LTM" or an incorrect speed such as "25 mph" instead of the actual posted speed limit. This is a serious safety concern. Drivers rely on HUD speed limit information while driving. Inaccurate readings can lead to unsafe driving decisions, unintentional speeding, traffic violations, and increased accident risk. The vehicle was taken to an authorized BMW dealership for repair and kept for approximately one week. I was informed on June 4, 2026, and again on June 8, 2026, that the issue had been resolved. After each attempt, the defect …

Recently purchased used iX and successfully used the Parking Assistant Professional about a dozen times to back into my home garage using 5-point maneuver (driveway layout visible from aerial photo from address provided with report; drove in straight passed spot on garageâs left side looking in, other SUV parked in right spot, back into perpendicular spot in garage). After recording a new 3-point path, I tried it for the first time. During that attempt, the SUV suddenly reversed too fast to stop before crashing into another car in the garage. The vehicle initially followed the recorded path, then paused during first reverse because of an apparent obstruction (car approaching leaves on bus…
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2021–2026, owners most often name: forward collision avoidance, electrical system, unknown or other. 116 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
