What BMW 530I owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See BMW 530I safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

Last year around this time my differential failed and I lost all power to my wheels when driving in traffic in [XXX] on my way back to [XXX]. The car was driving and a loud clunk sound came from the car and the transmission wouldn't drive and I had to coast off the road cutting off cars to make it to a parking lot. I thought this was just something that happened to my car that maybe I did but then I saw the recall going on for the BMW differentials and realized It wasn't just a one off thing that happened to me. The vehicle was towed to a shop by AAA insurance and was looked at and confirmed to be the differental and driveshaft. I already had the problem looked at and fixed and I have docume…
I own a 2023 BMW 530i affected by NHTSA recall campaign 26V-438 (BMW "Engine Starter" recall), issued July 8, 2026. Per BMW's own recall documentation, unexpected wear on an internal starter component can cause the starter to malfunction and, in an extreme case, cause a thermal event or fire when starting the engine OR while the engine is running. As of this complaint, BMW's official status for this recall is "Remedy not available" â there is no repair available and no timeline has been provided to me for when one will be. Because BMW has acknowledged a fire risk that can occur while the vehicle is being driven, and because no remedy exists, I have stopped driving the vehicle out of concer…
Seatbelt alarm goes off on passengers seat and no one is seated in the seat. Received a notification from BMW that the warranty was extended to cover this problem with this model but the BMW dealership says my VIN number is not covered. They confirmed that it did need replacing but They quoted me a price of more than $2500 to fix it and claimed nothing could be done about it unless itâs paid out of pocket.
A recall has been issued for our car over 5 months ago and dealer is saying they have no idea when the part will be in when i asked for a loaner car they said no,,the recall can cause the car to start a fire. Would like his to be addressed the reason we always bought BMW was for their reliability we are not happy Regards [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
After returning to my vehicle, I received an alert that the chassis stabilization system had a fault. The car was free, rolling and had no parking brake while it was on an incline. There was zero ability to turn the steering wheel. I consider this a life-threatening safety issue.
The recall 25V-636 remains unresolved after more than 6 month passed since the manufacturer issued the campaign regarding the engine starter. I would like to see the NHTSA to put the manufacturer on notice that this is unacceptable. We cannot park the vehicle outside of structures permanently as this devalues the vehicle and creates a loss of use.
Concern: The 2024 BMW 530i is equipped with "Dynamic Cruise Control" and a "Speed Limit Assistant." The system is designed to automatically adopt posted speed limits and adjust the cruise control set speed. However, because this specific trim lacks a radar-based distance-monitoring sensor (Active Cruise Control), the vehicle initiates aggressive, unintended acceleration toward slower-moving traffic or stopped obstacles whenever it detects a higher speed limit sign. Safety Risk: While the vehicle is using its cameras to "see" and adopt an external speed command, it remains "blind" to the actual traffic directly in its path. This creates a high risk of rear-end collisions, as the car will pr…
oil filter housing is plastic and is bound to give I hadnât reach 150k miles its an expensive job not normal maintenance problem bmw is expensive but recall this part to protect consumers
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

After programming the vehicle via ISTA/RSUto I-level â¦26-03-5xx, customer may reportsome of the interior ambient lighting strips(arrows) may begin to fail sporadically after adeep sleep cycle. This concern is temporary and the interiorambient lighting will be restored on its ownafter the vehicle is locked/unlocked or colorselection setting is changed.
In vehicles equipped with the Roof Function Center âFZDâ21â variant, a quiescentâcurrent violation mayoccur if the system fails to enter sleep mode. When this sleep error is present, a remote software upgrade(RSU) may be aborted and the FZD can become degraded. The following Check Control Messages (CCMs) may be displayed: âEnergy Management â Increased Energy Consumption While Parked.â âSoftware Upgrade Failed â Workshop Visit Required.â

After replacement of the Integrated Braking system (IB)/Power Brake the total distance covered might belower than when handed over to the workshop for the repair.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 20

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2026, owners most often name: air bags, electrical system, engine. 109 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
