DEAD PEDAL ISSUE. WHEN TRUCK IN MOTION, GOING UP HILL OR DOWN HILL, EVEN WHEN TRUCK TURN SOMETIMES GAS PEDAL DOESN'T WORK. IT IS TOO DANGEROUS FOR TO US OUT THERE ON BUSY STREET. WE BEEN TELL THE COMPANY TO FIX IT BUT THEY JUST DON'T CARE.*DT*JB
AUTOCAR XPEDITOR HAS ISSUES WITH "DEAD PEDAL." MEANING THAT WHEN THE GAS IS PRESSED AND THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THE FUEL DELIVERY STOPS AND THE MOTOR STALLS, SOMETIMES CAUSING THE TRUCK TO SHUT OFF BUT NOT ALWAYS. THE DEAD PEDAL ALWAYS CAUSES THE TRUCK TO ROLL BACKWARDS UNEXPECTEDLY. WASTE MANAGEMENT SEATTLE OPERATES DOZENS OF THESE TRUCKS AND DESPITE SEVERAL DRIVER COMPLAINTS HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS OR CORRECT THE ISSUE IN ANY WAY. THE FLEET OF AFFECTED TRUCKS OPERATES PRIMARILY ON RESIDENTIAL STREETS WITH HIGHWAY DRIVING TO GET TO ROUTE OR THE DUMP. THE DEAD PEDAL ISSUE HAPPENS TYPICALLY FROM THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE TRUCK WHILE THE DRIVER IS STANDING AND DRIVING.*DT*JB
OUR ENTIRE NEW FLEET OF TRUCKS, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, HAVE A SEVERE STALLING ISSUE. WHILE WORKING FROM THE WORK SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE STALLS OUT DOWN TO IDLE WHILE UNDER ANY LEVEL OF THROTTLE. THIS CAN HAPPEN IN A SINGLE INSTANCE OR SEVERAL BACK TO BACK, CAUSING AN IMMANENT THREAT WHEN THE VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARDS ON A SLOPE OR LOOSES STEERING ABILITY BECAUSE THE STALL IS SOMETIMES SO BAD THAT IT KILLS THE ENGINE ALTOGETHER. MANAGEMENT HAD BEEN INFORMED AND HAS SEEMINGLY REFUSED TO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION. THIS ISSUE CONTINUES TO WORSEN AND THE FLEET IS ONLY 7 MONTHS OR SO OLD. THERE HAVE ALREADY BEEN ACCIDENTS INVOLVING A TRUCK ROLLING BACKWARDS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM AND SOMEONE IS EVENTU…
I AM EMPLOYED BY THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND POWER AS A JOURNEYMAN EQUIPMENT MECHANIC. ASE CERRTIFIED, GM SENIOR MASTER TECH AND FORD SENIOR MASTER TECH. THE DEPTARTMENT RECENTLY PURCHASED A LARGE NUMBER OF AUTOCAR MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS POWERED BY CUMMINS ISL-G ENGINES. THE ENGINES ARE COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS(CNG) FUELED, SPARK IGNITION, ENGINES AND FLY BY WIRE THROTTLE CONTROL. THROTTLE RESPONSE DOES NOT MIRROR THROTTLE INPUT FROM THE OPERATOR. UPON INITIAL THROTTLE APPLICATION THERE IS A DELAYED RESPONSE OF APPROXIMATELY 1.25 SECONDS AND THE THROTTLE CONTINUES TO BE "LAZY." WHEN THE THROTTLE IS DEPRESSED COMPLETELY TO WIDE OPEN THE ENGINE RUNS UP TO GOVERNED SPEED BU…

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
On April 1, 2020, following information received from the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) network of fleet contacts, ODI opened PE20-003 to investigate reports of vehicle roll away in certain model year (MY) 2008-2020 Autocar and Mack refuse trucks equipped with certain Bendix PP-1 push-pull pneumatic park brake control valves with a pipe-away exhaust configuration. Prior to ODI’s investigation,[KK(1] Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC (Bendix), the subject component manufacturer, p
This investigation was opened based on a fleet complaint alleging delayed throttle response which could potentially lead to extended stopping distances and/or increase the risk of a crash. Autocar responded to ODI's Information Request (IR) letter and provided test data including its FMVSS 124 validation data.ODI reviewed Autocar's testing procedures and results with NHTSA's Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance and Office of Rule Making. The test procedure was acceptable as were the results. In an e

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2021, owners most often name: engine, fuel/propulsion system, power train. 5 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
