The vehicle systems named most often in Audi A6 complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
The brake vacuum is leaking and it makes the brake hard when the car is off, as soon as I start the car after pushing the brake hard enough, the brake pedal returns to its normal state. I am concerned that if something happens to the break while I am driving, this is very risky. I went to the dealer four times and they are always telling me that the car is normal but before it didnât have this problem. So the problem is not confirmed by the dealer. Also I have another Audi a6 same model that doesnât have this problem.
While operating the vehicle under normal driving conditions, the vehicle suffered an immediate, un-commanded loss of engine power and throttle response. The vehicle displayed a critical dashboard restriction stating: âMaximum engine speed 2500 RPMâ, forcing an emergency limp-home mode that instantly created a roadway collision hazard. Simultaneously, the vehicle's primary safety and convenience systems dropped completely offline, displaying synchronized, consecutive malfunction alerts for the Central Locking System, Audi Pre Sense (Distance Monitoring), Cross Traffic Assist, and Lane Change/Blind Spot Warning systems. A subsequent professional diagnostic scan confirmed that the vehic…
I am the lessee of a 2025 Audi A6 e-tron, VIN [XXX], leased new from McGrath Audi in XXX. The vehicle has been defective continuously since delivery and is currently inoperable. Current defect. After Audi applied software update campaign KT2, the vehicle will no longer accept a charge from any source. It will not charge on Level 1 at home, will not charge on my Level 2 home charger, and will not charge at Electrify America DC fast chargers. All three worked before the update. Because this is a battery electric vehicle, a vehicle that cannot charge cannot be driven. Audi has not provided a fix, a workaround, or a date by which a fix will exist. The defect was introduced by Audi's own softwar…
The contact owns a 2024 Audi A6. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle had experienced phantom braking, causing the vehicle to violently and abruptly stop in the middle of the road. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions, including while making a left turn in the middle of an intersection, and once while making a left-hand turn into the driveway. Additionally, on one occasion, the failure occurred and almost caused a second vehicle to crash into the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on several occasions, but the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer…
This report is on a new vehicle. The incident occurred within one week of purchase. While driving on a freeway at constant speed, with the closest vehicle in front of me approximately 25 yards away and with no warning, the car slammed on the brakes in an emergency fashion and aggressively tightened the seat belt shoulder harness. This was followed by a notice "emergency call cancelled". It is clear that the Audi pre sense malfunctioned and caused the system to think a rear end collision was imminent, when clearly it was not. The internet is littered with complaints about this. Fortunately, this did not result in an accident, but I would classify it as a near miss safety incident since if som…
The vehicle went in for a software update. After purchasing the vehicle, the software update was part of a recall. Since that recall was performed, my vehicle has a lot of electronic glitches and a lot of issues. My external Morty just got done, paying $4500 to track down a central locking issue on top of the electronic issues. Did not fix the issue. I am out of town going to see family in California. The vehicle central locking air came back up. I could not get out of the vehicle lock and unlock went out work. Also, the door handles would not work me and my daughter had to climb out of the car windows to get out. So like, you know what? And then we had to try to access the battery compartme…
The electronic/central door locking system on my 2020 Audi A6 malfunctioned. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection upon request. The vehicle was running with my two young children secured in car seats in the rear seats. I briefly exited and closed the driver's door. When I attempted to re-enter, the vehicle was locked and I was unable to gain access for approximately 10 minutes. My key fob was in my pocket but the proximity/keyless entry system failed, and repeated attempts with both my primary and spare key fobs failed to unlock the vehicle. My children were too young to operate the locks or release themselves from their car seats. I was preparing to break a wind…
The contact owns a 2024 Audi A6. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly came to an abrupt stop. The contact stated that everything turned off except for the instrument panel, which displayed an accident warning light. The vehicle was not in a crash, but all the features became inoperable. The vehicle was able to be restarted and driven. The dealer was notified of the failure and acknowledge the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,034.

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2027, owners most often name: electrical system, engine, air bags. 494 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
