What Volvo V60 owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See Volvo V60 safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

BCM Trouble Codes: C000101, C000201, and C008248 Incident & Defect Summary: The Brake Control Module (BCM) experienced a premature internal electrical circuit failure at only 55,188 total vehicle miles. This vehicle was purchased directly from an authorized Volvo retail showroom (Volvo Cars Marin) in 2020 at 36,434 miles, meaning this primary active safety infrastructure failed after just 18,754 miles of personal ownership (averaging roughly 3,125 miles per year under meticulous maintenance). The internal hardware breakdown disabled vital active safety networks, triggering persistent dashboard warnings that anti-lock braking (ABS), traction control, and electronic stability management are c…
The electronic tailgate struts/motors have failed for the 3rd time in the cars lifetime. The risk this presents is sudden dropping of the tailgate on heads, fingers or anything in between the ground and the lifted tailgate. The dealer has given a quote for replacement but will not give a quote on the diagnosis instead, simply telling me over the phone the struts need replaced and sending me a $1381.34 invoice via email. I have been working to get it in for diagnosis since August 21 with no luck. Today is September 2. The vehicle component is a well known and documented issue on forums across the V60/90 and XC60/90 SPA platforms. The warnings of this issues occuring are a loud screeching soun…
I took my car in for the 90,000 mile general service at the Volvo dealership. While rotating my tires the tech providing the service noted that the front left suspension fork was broken. The tech and Volvo were unable to provide an explanation for how the damage could have occurred. There was no other notable damage. The tire pressure light was on but that is baseline for my car (the tire pressure gauge is sensitive and usually turns on as soon as I adjust the tire pressure). I provided a picture of the suspension fork to a friend who works in the industry and they recommended reporting it. The part seems to have sheared and given that nothing around it is damaged, I believe and am concerned…
I am reporting an ongoing and worsening defect condition involving a Volvo vehicle that has displayed repeated power steering / steering failure warnings and is now also showing additional symptoms consistent with a possible turbo / emissions-related failure. The steering-related warnings have remained active and unresolved over an extended period. The vehicle has displayed dashboard warnings for âPower steeringâ and âPower steering failure,â and the condition has not been reliably corrected despite prior service involvement and an ongoing repurchase dispute with the manufacturer. More recently, the vehicle developed additional failure symptoms consistent with a turbo / wastegate /…
OTA update is never available on stated timelines. Requires going to the dealership to get updates.
The engine consumes an excessive amount of oil, requiring the addition of about one quart every few hundred miles. There are no visible external leaks, and the issue appears to be due to internal engine components such as piston rings allowing oil into the combustion chamber. This poses a risk of engine damage and loss of power. The problem has been observed consistently and confirmed by a repair shop. No crash or safety incident has occurred, but the vehicle's reliability and safety are compromised.
Engine oil consumption issue. It was a known issue. Completed the recommended repair of the piston and rings. Have had constant issues since the repair. Looking for reimbursement for the repair. My engine fell under the guidelines to have the repair covered.
Vehicle: 2023 Volvo V60 T8. The rear camera does not display video while reversing and instead text appears stating "camera is temporarily unavailable". This occurs periodically, sometimes it works, sometimes its does not, and there is no pattern to when it works. This has been occurring for over a year and recently my car received the 3.7.0 software update OTA. After the update the issue is the same with intermittent failures of the backup camera. This software/hardware failure make the car less safe when backing up, especially when reversing out of a tight parking spot or onto a road with fences/shrubs. Volvo dealer keeps saying it will be fixed via OTA updates but that has not worke…
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-spe

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2011–2024, owners most often name: engine, electrical system, service brakes. 57 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
