ONE ARMED TRASH TRUCK FIRE. HOT HYDRAULICS CAUGHT FIRE FROM DEBRIS HITTING THEM WHEN EMPTYING TRASH. VERY WINDY AND COLD DAY, RIGHT AFTER LONG HOLIDAY BREAK - LOTS OF LOOSE WRAPPING PAPER AND TUBES IN TRASH FROM HOLIDAYS. THE OLDER MODELS HAVE NO COVER OR SHIELD TO PROTECT THE HOT HYDRAULIC LINES FROM FLYING DEBRIS! THEY ALSO DO NOT HAVE A MIRROR TO SEE BETWEEN THE CAB AND THE HOPPER TO ENSURE NO DEBRIS HAS LANDED ON HOT HYDRAULICS. MORE RECENT MODELS HAVE A SHIELD OR A COVER TO PROTECT HYDRAULIC LINES FROM RECEIVING FLYING DEBRIS AND CATCHING FIRE. I HAVE MANY MORE PICTURES SHOULD THEY BE NEEDED THAT I COULD NOT ATTACH. I ALSO NEED TO KNOW WHERE TO FIND INFORMATION ON SIMILAR INCID…
THESE ARE GOVERNMENT OWNED REFUSE VEHICLES. THE FRONT SUSPENSION BOUNCES SO VIOLENTLY THAT THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. THIS OCCURS ON ROADS WHERE THERE SEEMS TO BE NO ABNORMALITY AND AT ANY RATE OF SPEED. THE GOVERNMENT ENTITY HAS REMAINED UNWILLING OR UNABLE TO RESOLVE THIS WITH THE MANUFACTURER.
THE 2010 PETERBILT 320 GARBAGE TRUCK WAS RETURNING FROM THE WASTE DISPOSAL SITE. THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BROKE OFF THE MOUNTING BRACKETS THAT SECURES THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THE PETAL FELL OVER SIDEWAYS, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY FOR THE TRUCK. THE TWO VERY SMALL BRACKETS, ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH HAS A ROD IN THE BOTTOM THE GOES THROUGH THE PEDAL AND INTO EACH BRACKET WHICH PETERBILT CALLS A BEARING. THE BRACKETS (BEARINGS) BOTH DETERIORATED AS THEY ARE MADE OF A VERY LIGHT POT METAL TYPE MATERIAL AND WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED BROKE INTO SEVERAL PIECES. THE TRUCK WAS PUT INTO SERVICE IN OCTOBER 2010, LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO.…
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.

Info Only Unnecessary starter replacements can result from customer complaints regarding engine starting issues. A new Starter Troubleshooting Guide has been created to provide a comprehensive list of starting system checks, which should reduce unnecessary starter replacements and associated warranty claims. Engine starting system warranty claims now require a completed Starter Checklist, a Battery Pack Midtronics Report, and a Cable Drop Midtronics Report. Claims filed without these documents may be denied.

Emissions Recall Certain vehicles with PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 EMY2016 engines with less than 300,000 miles (482,803 km) have been shown, in testing, to exceed regulatory limits for NOx and N2O emissions. This bulletin now applies to both Canadian and U.S. registered vehicles. Software is now available to remedy this emissions non-compliance.
An engine software defect exists in certain vehicles equipped with EMY17 MX-13 and MX-11 engines that pertains to timer action and count calibrations for a time-based diagnostic. This diagnostic action checks fuel pressure and has no negative impact on tailpipe emissions. This soft ware may incorrectly set DTC âÃÂàP1092.
RFID (Radio Frequency ID) tags are being added and used to track Non-Test Ready (NTR) trucks to efficiently locate them once they are off the production line, but still on the premises. The tags are left on the trucks which have been sold.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Preliminary Evaluation (PE21-015) based on one Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) and supporting fleet reports. The reports indicated that the subject quarter fenders were prone to cracking and/or separation. After a comprehensive review of the data related to the quarter fender failures on the subject vehicles, ODI did not identify the existence of a safety-related defect trend. Quarter fender failures resulted in a warranty claim rate less th

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2023, owners most often name: service brakes, hydraulic, steering, suspension. 3 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
