What Lexus GX owners have reported to NHTSA, the service bulletins the manufacturer sent dealers, and any federal defect investigations, by model year. See Lexus GX safety recalls or check your VIN.
Complaints owners filed with NHTSA, by the model year of the vehicle. A high count can also mean a popular year, so compare it with how many were sold.

The vehicle systems named most often in Lexus GX complaints (one complaint can name several).
In the owners’ own words, as filed with NHTSA. Unverified reports; NHTSA removes personal details before publishing.
The actuator on the driver door went out and in 2025 and had to get replaced. I was not able to lock or unlock the drivers side door. All the doors would lock and unlock. Just the other car the front passenger doors actuator lock went out. It is doing the same, will not lock or unlock. I have to do it manually.
The rear middle seat child seatbelt retractor on my 2020 Lexus GX 460 failed internally â the belt became stuck and would not retract, rendering the child safety restraint position unusable. The failure was severe enough that the dealership (Tri-County Lexus, Little Falls, NJ) determined the vehicle was unsafe to drive with the affected seating position in use and grounded the vehicle pending repair. Lexus Corporate authorized replacement of the belt assembly (Part #73320-35010-A4) at no cost under an internal goodwill case, which itself indicates recognition that this was a component failure rather than normal wear. I am filing this report so the defect is on record, given the safety-crit…
On XXX I brought the vehicle to Tri-County and advised them that the vehicle was shifting roughly when coming to a complete stop or when slowing down to take a turn and beginning to accelerate. The dealership acknowledged the issue and advised that they were waiting for a software update. On XXX, I brought the vehicle to Tri-County Lexus about rough transmission jerking and rough idling shake while the vehicle idles. Lexus performed a software update which was performed under TSB L-SB-0042-25; however, they stated that they could not recreate the rough shake at idle. On XXX I returned to the dealer with video proof of the vehicle shaking roughly while at idle, at which time they proceeded to…
The contact owns a 2017 Lexus GX. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the center console repeatedly restarted and displayed a blank screen. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed, but no failure was found. Additionally, while driving at 10 MPH, the vehicle experienced a total loss of motive power. No warning lights illuminated. After multiple attempts, the vehicle was restarted and driven normally. The dealer was not notified of the power loss failure, and the vehicle was not further diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.
There is a significant squeal when braking at low speed in both forward and reverse. I am unsure whether this is a safety issue or not, but there is evidence online that other owners are experiencing the same issue.
This issue began after I brought unrepaired recall concerns to the dealershipâs General Manager and was told I would need to sign an NDA and failed to provide the recall part numbers as agreed. When I received my vehicle back, I immediately noticed physical changes to my instrument panel. I then reviewed four years of photos and videos stored on my original devices and discovered approximately twenty dateâstamped images showing drill holes, pry marks, tool damage, and components of the instrument cluster visibly moving, changing, or disappearing over time. I am submitting information regarding possible unauthorized access, alteration, and replacement of my vehicleâs instrument cluster…
The back up camera would go black when reversing, creating a dangerous situation. Itâs a known issue with the GX 460 model that when the radio gets corrupted and the infotainment screen goes black it will cause the back up camera to not function properly! I reached out to Lexus and they confirmed the issue is a bad logic (mother ) board that causes this and since itâs out of warranty they will not honor the repair or replacement of this highly dangerous situation. Your assistance is much appreciated!
In 2018 shottenkirk desert lexus marked two recalls as completed but also simultaneously typed in a note saying "customer declined worked and is out of town" The original part number and quantity fields are left blank. The dealership was paid for these items. I do not have anywhere in the vehicle history after that date showing any recalls were addressed. The recalls are the airbag which is a safety hazard for exploding shrapnel., and for the instrumental panel. Both were paid to dealer but both have blank /missing part numbers. Finally--once I reported to lexus corporate and the dealer General manager, the GM Matt attempted to offer me a cash settlement and repairs but I must sign a non di…
Repair instructions and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about known issues. A TSB is not a recall, and the repair is usually free only while the car is under warranty; ask your dealer for the bulletin number.
Some 2024 â 2026 model year GX 550 vehicles may exhibit a vibration at idle when in drive. The Engine Control Module (ECM) logic has been modified, in addition to improved exhaust hangers, to help improve this condition
A battery in a stored vehicle is subject to conditions that can reduce its performance and service life. These conditions include storage period, temperature, parasitic drain, and battery load. Because of these factors, battery inspection and maintenance are required to ensure proper operation and optimal battery life.
During the manufacturing process, tires are mounted on the vehicle as matched sets to help reduce conditions such as pulling or drifting. If the wheels are replaced or refinished before vehicle delivery, it is important that the tires remain on the vehicle in the same location and in the same direction of rotation.
2027 model year Lexus vehicles are equipped with driver side floor mat retainers to secure the floor mat in the correct position
Long-term or off-site storage requires special care to maintain vehicle condition. The following guidelines should be implemented to minimize vehicle component/part degradation due to extended vehicle storage conditions. Long-term storage can affect a vehicleâs systems and components. Any problems that are found should be corrected immediately.
Some 2022 â 2026 model year LX 600, 2024 â 2026 model year GX 550, and 2025 â 2026 model year LX 700h vehicles may exhibit a condition where the front brakes produce a squealing noise when driving forward or in reverse

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens these when complaints point to a possible safety defect. Many end in a recall.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 20

In complaints filed with NHTSA for model years 2010–2027, owners most often name: unknown or other, electrical system, engine. 119 complaints are on record.
No. A complaint is an unverified report from an owner. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the manufacturer telling dealers how to fix a known issue; it is not a safety recall and is usually covered only under warranty. A recall is a formal safety action, and its repair is free.
File a vehicle safety complaint at NHTSA.gov. NHTSA reads every report, and patterns of complaints are what open defect investigations and, eventually, recalls.
