I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 X5 WHEN AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION- REDUCED POWER CAME UP, SINCE THE VEHICLE STARTED OVERHEATING I IMMEDIATELY STOP AND CALL A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE BEARS BMW, AFTER THE DEALER MADE ME CHANGE THE IVM AND THE DME IT CAME BACK TO A WATER PUMP MALFUNCTION THAT WAS CREATING THE CAR TO NOT WORK PROPERLY. This bulletin outlines the procedure for checking the engine timing chains for wear, and should be completed in conjunction with SI B11 06 14, "N63 Customer Care Package." From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
