Named after a 12.5-acre hill approximately 50 feet in height, the town is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Established in the 1840s, settlement in the area began when Presbyterian immigrants from the area of Flower Mound, Indiana, moved to the area, attracted by the promise of abundant land. The town was incorporated in 1961 and has grown significantly since then, driven by its proximity to major cities and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
