Why was 2002 Suzuki "Eiger" LT-F400K2 and LT-F400FK2 ATVs recalled?

The nut that secures the LT-F400K2 and LT-F400FK2 clutch shoe will come loose during operation. When the nut loosens, the clutch shoe will become loose on the crankshaft. In some cases this will cause severe damage to the clutch wheel and crankshaft or can cause the crankshaft to break. This will interrupt power transfer from the engine to the transmission and the drive wheels and may leave the rider stranded away from his or her base of operation.

  • Description: PRODUCT: ATVs - Suzuki Motor Corporation of Brea, Calif., is voluntarily recalling approximately 4,000 2002 model year All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The Suzuki "Eiger" LT-F400K2 and LT-F400FK2 (two and four-wheel drive) ATVs have manual transmissions. These models carry the identifications "Suzuki" and "Eiger" on both sides of the bodywork, inboard of the operator's knee location. The ATVs are available in both red and green. Suzuki dealers nationwide sold these ATVs from September through mid-October 2001 for between $4,199 and $4,999.PROBLEM: Suzuki Motor Corporation has determined that the nut that secures the LT-F400K2 and LT-F400FK2 clutch shoe will come loose during operation. When the nut loosens, the clutch shoe will become loose on the crankshaft. In some cases this will cause severe damage to the clutch wheel and crankshaft or can cause the crankshaft to break.
